Left Green MP Steingrímur J. Sigfússon, Reform Party Chairman Benedikt Jóhannesson, and Social Democratic Alliance Chairman Logi Einarson all stated in interviews that an election would likely be announced for October in the wake of the government disbanding last night, RÚV reports.

"There are two possibilities: either a new government is formed or we hold an election. I believe an election is now more likely," stated Logi.

Birgitta Jónsdóttir, parliamentary chairman of the Pirate Party, stated this morning she supports attempting to form a new government before deciding on an election. "It is important not to give up immediately. We had come up with a great governing agreement in five-party meetings at the end of last year. It's OK to look at a few things before people give up," Birgitta stated.

The Reform Party, the Progressive Party, Bright Future, Left Green, and the Pirate Party have been holding meetings this morning to discuss the disbanding of the government coalition. The governing Independence Party is scheduled to meet just before noon and the Social Democratic Party in the afternoon.

Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson told media on his way into party headquarters that there was much he wanted to discuss with them today, and that he would do so later in the day.
