State's attorney touts new unit meant to build gun cases with police

"We have a lot of work to do. These are times of crisis," she said in a City Club of Chicago speech touting her first 100 days in office. "The national conversation about Chicago I know rocks us all to the core. As a born and bred Chicagoan, it hurts my heart and my stomach that the caricature of who we are on the national stage continues to be resonating."

In a later interview with the Chicago Tribune, Foxx, who promised the move after her election in November, said three prosecutors from her office have teamed up with three federal prosecutors as well as Chicago police officers and federal agents in the Englewood and Harrison districts to build gun cases from the ground up.

She said it was a priority to have the unit up and running well before the start of the summer, traditionally the city's most deadly months.

"We need all hands on deck in those two districts that are driving the most violence," Foxx said. "My hope is we're going to see results this year."
