'I'm not retired': Joe Arpaio launches conservative non-profit

The email's subject line said it all: "I'll never quit."

Not quite 2½ months after officially leaving office after losing his bid for a seventh term as Maricopa County sheriff, Joe Arpaio on Tuesday divulged his next endeavor.

In an email to his supporters, Arpaio announced the new "Sheriff Joe Arpaio Action Fund," an issue-advocacy non-profit organization that promotes conservative values.

The organization, he said in the email, is meant to counter the likes of liberal billionaire George Soros, who donated millions to Democratic candidates in 2016. One notable candidate was Paul Penzone, the challenger who ousted Arpaio in the November election after nearly a quarter-century in the office.

Tuesday's missive included many of the elements of Arpaio's campaign emails. It touted his experience in law enforcement and blamed his legal and political misfortunes on the Obama administration.
