Via Patheos, local news station ABC 27 reports that an American student of Bosnian descent last week refused to stand during the Pledge at the Carlisle High School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Admir, the student in question, regularly sits during the Pledge in protest of America's foreign policy in the Middle East.

However, this did not sit well with a substitute teacher who presided over his class on Friday, as she reprimanded him for refusing to stand and told him that "maybe you would just like to leave the country" if he continued to refuse.

Admir's classmates stood by his right to sit during the Pledge, however, and posted a Twitter hashtag #WeSitWithAdmir in solidarity.

The school district has now announced that the substitute teacher has been removed from the classroom and won't be coming back.
