Pretty much as soon as he did, everyone began to say, "That's great, but who is he playing?" During today's Marvel Studio's panel at Comic-Con International, his role was finally confirmed: He's playing Ego, and—yes—he's Star-Lord's father.

Russell makes his grand entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe via a new (as-yet-unreleased) trailer for the film that played during the studio's Hall H panel. Landing in a spaceship shaped like the Cloud Gate (aka "Bean") in Chicago, Ego announces his presence by addressing Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) himself: "After all these years, I've found you. … I'm your dad, Peter." Dun. Dun. DUN. This being a Guardians movie, however, the tone quickly shifts back to humor with Drax asking about Ego's anatomy and how, exactly, he created baby Star-Lord. "Yes, Drax," Ego says. "I got a penis."
