A majority of Americans oppose the politically correct environment that many claim has chilled free speech, according to a new poll, defying decades of media and entertainment industry efforts to push the PC narrative.

In a Qunnipac University poll, Americans were asked, "Which is closer to your point of view: there is too much political correctness in the United States today, or there is too much prejudice in the United States today?"

51% of Americans thought that political correctness had gone too far, while 44% thought that prejudice was the bigger problem. 5% said they don't know or refused to answer.

Split down party lines, 86% of Republicans opposed PC culture compared to 16% of Democrats. Men were also significantly more likely to eschew political correctness by a margin of 60% to 37% compared to for 43% to 51% for women.
