Hackers target Vatican accountant's computer

• http://www.arcamax.com, DPA

Libero Milone, whom Pope Francis named the Vatican's first auditor general in June, has alerted the police to an alleged cyberattack, Turin daily La Stampa said.

Vatican police opened an investigation into the matter and suspicions have been raised that it might be an inside job, according to the newspaper.

The Vatican has yet to comment on the report.

Francis created the position for Milone as part of promised reforms to the Roman Curia, the bureaucratic arm of the church, under which the Italian accountant had the power to audit the books of any office in the Vatican.

La Stampa said the allegation was part of a "new climate of poison and suspicion."
