Survey: Ecuador Best Country for Expats

• http://www.usnews.com, By Deidre McPhillips

Ecuador is the best country for expats for the second year in a row, according to a survey by InterNations, a global social network for expats.

The survey asked more than 14,000 expatriates -- from the study abroad student to the worker on assignment and his or her spouse-- from 170 countries living abroad in 64 countries about their life and happiness, and found that expats view the success of their life abroad as a whole package, without putting particular emphasis on the importance of any one factor.

The small South American nation was the "big favorite" among expats, said InterNations co-founder Malte Zeeck, claiming the top spot in "personal happiness," "feeling welcome," "personal finance," and "cost of living" subcategories and high rankings in many others.

Finaccord, an international market research and consulting firm, predicts that there will be about 56.8 million expats by 2017. InterNations currently has about 2 million members.
