Come and get your onions….they won't last long! They are so sweet!

A few days ago the longest day of the year was upon us and now we are on the down side of day light hours, that's the good news.  The bad news, it's still really, really hot and will be for at least another 60 days.  I was able to escape the heat for a nearly a week. I skidded onto the runway and into Madison, Wisconsin to visit my long time best friend Jerry.   Many of you go way back with Jerry, the farm and myself.  Here is an update into his next chapter.

Winter Squash will soon be ready for the tables.

Jerry served in the military for just over twenty years, the Navy to be exact.  Like many young men fresh out of high school or still a teenager whom joined the armed services, indulged in many a different habit and Jerry smoked cigarettes. As the years progressed, so did his consumption. He hasn't had a cigarette for years but after 45 plus years of smoking, now at the age of 63, his lungs are giving out and he needs a bilateral lung transplant.

So many of you have been asking about Jerry, sending him prayers, well wishes and love.  He tears up when I say "Lauren and Bob said tell you hi or Barb, Janet, Barb, Barb,  and Barbara and Connie, Paul, Doug, Debi, Debbie, Debby, Debbie and Debra, all the Joe's and Carols plus everyone else say hi too.  He really misses all of you….really he does!

It was a tearful week with Jerry…..we also got in a few laughs too; He can still, barely take care of himself, but at a very slow pace.  A few steps down the hall and then he needs to rest.  The most simple things done without hesitation, bending over to tie shoes, walking from the kitchen to the dining table, just breathing are now some of the most hardest challenges he faces on a daily basis.  Struggle has now become his lifestyle.  No vim, absolutely no vigor.  His breathing has weakened so much, even a gentle hug is way too much for his body to handle.

After I arrived and was driven back to the hotel, Jerry told me his present caregiver is leaving at the end of July for personal reasons.  Now, Jerry has 30 days to find another full time care giver or his transplant endeavor will terminate. The VA will send him home, thus his 7 month wait (so far) would be for nothing.  If you or you know of anyone who would like to help Jerry please send Rob an email.

Don't forget there is about 23 days left to sign up for the CSA program for the fall season.  This is a crucial time of the year financially for the farm. The farm needs your support.  There is very little income coming into the farm, so please dig into your pocket-book and sign up for a share, you will be glad you did, the farm offers the best CSA program in the state.  For more information click onto the above tabs CSA Information and CSA Contract.  The farm needs your support.

This years CSA program is now over for the season but the farm stand will still be open several more weeks.  The farm needs to have continued financial support and one way for CSA members to return the favor for a generous bonus program offered by the farm for the CSA members, is to come to the farm and shop in the summer on a regular basis and pay cash or plastic.   And, the farm still needs it customers to support its summer growing program.  There are some late arriving crops over the next few weeks and your business will be greatly appreciated.
