$19 Gizmo Turns Anything Into a Touchpad

• http://www.wired.com, LIZ STINSON

Really, in Silver's world you can turn anything into almost anything, so long as you have an alligator clip, some sensors, and an imagination.

Silver is the creator of the Makey Makey, a simple circuit board that transforms the inanimate stuff in your life into touchable user interfaces that function much like a computer mouse or keyboard. Silver released the first version of the Makey Makey in 2012, and now he's back with the $19 Makey Makey Go, an even simpler version of his original idea now raising funds on Kickstarter.

The first Makey Makey was made of a circuit board into which you could hook up to seven alligator clips and six connectors. You connected the board to your computer through a USB cord and used the alligator clips and wires to create a circuit between yourself and whatever object you decided to use as your input device. As Silver explains it: "The computer just thinks Makey Makey is a regular keyboard or mouse." In other words, if your software responds to clicks and taps, it's gonna work with the Makey Makey.
