Sign the petition to Balance the Budget (Tempe, AZ) ~ by Matt Papke

• Free Tempe - Matt Papke
Sometimes I make mistakes, and this is one of those times. I am sorry to inform you that when I stated earlier today that Tempe had Seven Million Dollars in Outstanding Bond Debt I was mistaken. I would like to RETRACT that statement.

It should have read Seven Hundred Million Dollars in Outstanding Bond Debt!

But what is a factor of 100 when it comes to your money?
Sorry for my mistake, I wish I could say I was right the first time.

When I make a mistake I own up to it!
It is time to start holding our elected public servants accountable for their actions and inactions. Toying with our futures by mortgaging them at every opportunity is not responsible leadership. Join me and call upon the city of Tempe to put forth a truly balanced budget!

Please support my efforts to bring a balanced budget to Tempe today with a donation to my campaign today.

As your next Councilmember I will work hard to end the culture of debt that is so commonplace in Government. You can not run your household spending more than you make, and neither can I. But for some reason Governments think they can.

SIGN THE PETITION TO BALANCE THE BUDGET

They shuffle fund balances and sell us further into debt to legally balance the budget. Did you know that Tempe has seven hundred million dollars  in bond debt outstanding? Let's end the irresponsible shell game and send someone to City Hall who truly understands what it means to save and to invest into our futures, and our city. The status quo is bent upon mortgaging my future and yours it is time to stand up against it.

I cannot get there with out you please contribute today!

They shuffle fund balances and sell us further into debt to legally balance the budget. Per State Law the City of Tempe is required to have a balanced budget. So, to balance the budget, the city: sells assets takes out loans and relies on federal grants to cover the costs. It is time for true accountability.
Whereas: Responsible management of funds is necessary to secure the availability of essential city services.

Whereas: Selling assets to pay the bills is not a long term solution.

Whereas: Basing budgets on grants that are not guaranteed in the future is an unnecessary risk.

Whereas: We as a city should not promote a culture of debt.

Whereas: Since everyday Americans have to find ways to live within their means, Tempe should be no exception.

Therefore: I demand that Tempe begin generating truly balanced budgets and lead by example to remove the culture of debt that rules in government.
