The vote was originally expected to happen in August, but was instead moved to the later date. The Guardian reports that the change was made due to a longer than average state legislative session which affected the legal timeline required for such initiatives to be placed on the ballot.
The move means the decision will be made during a general election when it’s likely that more voters will turn out to cast a ballot than they would have during the state’s August primary election.
