A 13-year-old boy in Preston just successfully built a home-made nuclear reactor

Nuclear fission involves the splitting of a large atom into two or more smaller ones. It produces many highly radioactive particles. In contrast, nuclear fusion involves joining 2+ lighter atoms into one larger one.

Jamie has set a new world record as the youngest ever ‘fusioneer’

The title was previously held by US citizen Taylor Wilson, who built his reactor in his parents’ garage at the comparatively mature age of 14.
