9% Have Considered Quitting Their U.S. Citizenship

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only nine percent (9%) of U.S. citizens have considered giving up their American citizenship. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Perhaps in part that’s because 93% consider it at least somewhat important to be a U.S. citizen, including 79% who think it is Very Important.

But 45% believe U.S. citizens also should be allowed to be citizens of other countries.  Thirty-six percent (36%) disagree, while 19% are not sure.

However, in the context of immigration reform, 54% of likely U.S. voters said in March found that potential U.S. citizens should not be allowed to maintain dual citizenship.

If you've renounced your US citizenship you aren't allowed to legally buy a gun in California. I just took my Hand Gun Certificate test and noticed this was one of the questions the DOJ wanted to know.

99.9% of the 9% never knew that they never had U.S. citizenship, but only State citizenship. In the process of formally quitting the U.S. citizenship they didn't have, they acknowledged that they had it, even though they really didn't. After all, you can't quit something that you don't have. When they acknowledged that they had it, they opened themselves up to all kinds of laws that the U.S. might have for people who quit their citizenship. Like perjury - saying you had it when you didn't. But the U.S. won't get them for their perjury directly. That would show too many people the truth. Rather, the U.S. will keep on letting them think that they have some obligation to the U.S. because they THOUGHT they were citizens of the U.S. I mean, if they aren't smart enough to know that they weren't citizens of the U.S. in the first place, they surely won't be smart enough to realize it after they quit it. And they won't be smart enough to realize that post-citizenship laws don't apply to them.
