Space laser to prove increased broadband possible, NASA says
• sciencerecorder.comAccording to an August 28 news release from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, the upcoming operation of the space agency’s Lunar Laser Communication Demonstration (LLCD) aboard the Ames Research Center-managed Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environmental Explorer (LADEE) mission will attempt to demonstrate the potential capability of beyond-Earth two-way laser communication. This new means of transmission could allow for the exchange of enormous amounts of data, and NASA officials hope that the capability will extend to routine high definition 3-D video transmissions in deep space.
