There is a program in Utah that has an eerily similar hook to the athletic shoe scheme – register your garden and you can win a chintzy prize. The program is called the Utah Garden Challenge. You can win a prize for telling the government about your one potted tomato plant, or, god forbid, your large organic garden that borders on felonious survivalism. The Utah government wants to see how much food the people produce.
