US Southern Command's support to Peru shows shared responsibility
• AndinaLima, Oct. 09 (ANDINA). The commitment made by the head of U.S. Southern Command, Gen. Douglas
Fraser, to support Peru's fight against organized crime is a signal of
Washington's policy on shared responsibility, the United Nations Office
on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said Sunday.
The UNODC representative in Peru and Ecuador, Flavio Mirella, highlighted the statements of the Southcom's commander about the war on narco-terrorism waged by Peruvian authorities in the Valley of the Apurimac and Ene Rivers (VRAE).
"It is included within the scope of shared responsibility and is a good signal as the United States wants VRAE not to remain a stigmatized area due to its high production of coca leaf," Mirella told Andina.
