Roman Empire's rise and fall 'recorded in trees'

• Terrence Aym
The glory of the Roman Empire and its tragic demise was silently chronicled—and recorded—by trees. This surprising fact came to light after an extensive study of tree growth rings revealed a link between sudden climate shifts and the rise and fall of ancient civilizations. The study and its conclusions have been published by the journal Science. The study explains that the insight was gleaned from data compiled from more than 9,000 wooden artifacts from a period of time stretching 2,500 years.
