Marijuana ballot measure nears approval

• Capitol Media Services

Arizona appears on the verge of finally getting a law that will allow patients to obtain marijuana legally.

Figures released late Friday show Proposition 203 ahead by 4,421 votes out of more than 1.6 million cast.

Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell, whose office has the last of the ballots to be counted, told Capitol Media Services she has only about 10,000 ballots yet to be tallied.

Wow. It's getting called as PASSED. By about 4000 votes. I can't believe it.

But WATCH IT. People in other states have been denied 2nd Amendment rights after registering. Don't doubt AZ politicians will do everything in their power to screw this.

Hey this is great! This is a guage of shifting public sentiment, it establishes that it does have "legitimate medical values", it will further demonstrate that "reefer maddness" and all those who support it are full of BULLSHIT and it will begin to chip away, however minimally, at cartel supplied product. If alcohol (and regulation thereof post-prohibition) is any indicator, low cost and high availability will ultimately end cartel control as well as the impetus to "illegal production". People make ferment and distill alcohol at home now but nobody bothers.

Even though I support the freedom to choose to use marijuana I voted against 203.  This proposed law adds regulations, benefiting only a few, when we should be focused on decriminilizing and deregulating the use of marijuana (or anything else people choose to put in their bodies).  Consequently, the deregulation of marijuana would end the existence of the mexican drug cartels and perhaps make it safe to travel to mexico again.  I think 203 just wanted to go the wrong direction.
