Police in downtown Phoenix plan to go hunting for motorists who owe nearly $2 million in unpaid parking tickets, using high-tech cameras capable of scanning thousands of vehicle tags a day.

Court and police officials say they want to test whether the system, already being used in other U.S. cities, could be an effective way of recovering more than 15,000 unpaid fines going back 10 years.
