This paper is Caplan drawing conclusions from Szasz, but it is much easier to read than Szasz and abundantly documented, so you can find the sources.
Bottom line, many psychaitric disorders have political definitions in the DSM, not medical, and are easily explained by extreme preferences that aren't considered diseases in analogous situations.
