Who We Are

Food Forest Montana was founded by a Family of Three with a dream to change the world by living more simply, closer to nature, and becoming completely self-sufficient.

We have a passion for being good Stewards to the Earth and leaving things better than we found it. In this day and age that means we need to make major changes to restore nature's ecosystems that we've damaged.

In that problem we found an opportunity, to solve so many of the problems we face collectively with just one simple change, an idea whose time has come: Food Forests Everywhere!

With that revelation in our heart, and having already embarked on the journey to build our own off-grid veganic homestead, Food Forest Montana was born.

Our Mission

We are in troubling times both collectively, as citizens of the Earth, and locally as citizens of Montana, including:

-Water Shortages

-Being dependent on a fragile import network

-Pesticide Laden, Genetically Modified, & Processed Food

-Diminishing Air Quality

-Collapsing Ecosystems

-Poor Health

-Economic Hardship

-Our Personal, Inherent Rights Under Attack

-A Constant Fear of Scarcity

It is our Mission to address all of the above and then some.

By growing a Food Forest, you're becoming a part of the solution, rather than being a part of the problem. It allows you the opportunity to become a producer, instead of just a consumer, to not only provide food for yourself, but to share your abundance with your local community.

Our Vision is for a sustainable, healthy, and abundant society for our grandchildren and beyond; Food Forests growing in every community, solar on every roof, water catchment, filtering, and storage at every home.

We believe in sustainable architecture, and making natural wellness products widely available. Food deserts turned to food forests!

"But We Live in MONTANA, That Just Won't Work!"

It's too dry, it's too cold, our season is too short, there's not enough sun, we've heard it all!

Part of that misconception is born from the fact that we're so used to eating foods imported from different parts of the world that we've forgotten what grows in our own climate.

Rather than focusing on what can't grow here, we should flip the script and focus on what CAN grow here…and it's a lot! There are so many delicious, nutrient dense foods that only thrive in colder climates (Zones 2-5).

In fact, the foods we've grown so accustomed to eating are so deficient in nutrients by the time they've made it home you'd hardly believe it.

Did you know most fruits and vegetables have lost more than 50% of their nutrients within just a week of harvest?

Spinach , for example, can lose 90% of its vitamin C content within 24 hours of harvest, and 50 percent of its folate and carotenoids within a week!

By the time the produce you're eating has been picked (often when it's unripe I might add), shipped, stocked, sat on the shelves, been purchased, then been prepared it has often been far more than a week.

Once you've had fresh food, grown in nature, and picked ripe in its season, you'll never want anything else! When grown and harvested in this way, you'd be surprised at how much more flavorful familiar foods can be. It is as though you're tasting it for the first time!

Just because you're living up North doesn't mean that you can't live in total abundance, and we're here to make that happen!
