ARC's Purpose

(ARC) Automotive Restoration Club is currently in the process of fund raising to build a new facility at the RH Johnson recreation site next to the Men's Club.

Click here to pledge for our new building.

What is ARC's purpose in pursuing the construction of a state-of-the-art restoration center?

In reality, to construct the facility we want and need to fulfill the vision of most ARC charter members.  Establishing a community resource,  second to none in the country.  Some members doubt we will accomplish this ambitious goal however, a large contingent of members disagree.

What is that goal?  To construct a facility as the crown jewel of Sun City West in the same fashion that Del Webb envisioned all the clubs in serving for those of us to be fortunate enough to live here in SCW.

Admittedly, we enjoy an unprecedented community of vast resources, directed towards it's residents.  The interest in automobiles new or old is a clear interest to those baby boomers just retiring.  That is just one of the purposes for the ARC facility.
Our President,  Herb Clark has set the tone.

1)  It will be a first class learning center aimed at teaching selected young men on a scholarship basis, who want to learn the craft of auto restoration.  We wish to partner with the valley's education community, in sharing many ARC's members vast knowledge and experience in the automotive field.

2)  To have a place for members to pursue their craft and mentor other ARC members interested in automobiles.

3)  A meeting place to celebrate any number of community functions in a first rate atmosphere, one dedicated to the history and legend of the automobile.  A facility conducive to serving all in the community at large, not only SCW, but throughout the valley.
How does this impact ARC members and SCW residents?   For starters, it will draw new residents from across the nation.  SCW has always been a representative of "the good life" for our retiree's and that knowledge is not lost on other retirement communities across the nation.  Over the last 2 years, Herb Clark has been deluged with phone call from all over the country from seriously interested retiree's who are attracted to our vision.

How much is this going to cost and who is paying for it?  Realistically, the cost will likely be somewhere north of $750.000.00.  That is the hard part, but not the impossible part.  We have grown from 75 initial members to over 350 members in less than 18 months.  And that is without a facility.

Herb Clark has embarked on an ambitious fund raising campaign.  To date we have about $255,000.00 in the building fund.  There are many corporate prospects that will assist in funding and are good prospects right now.  If we raise $200.000.00 toward the building, we can obtain financing.  We have several viable opportunities to raise money over the long haul to pay-off the building.  We will be the first SCW club ever, to pay for their own facility.

So all of this sounds very nice, but we as ARC members should seriously consider supporting the pledges needed to start ground breaking.  If we believe in the conceptual vision, that drew 350 car guys & gals together, surely we can "bite the bullet" and make a serious pledge.  Let's put our money where our mouth is.  I challenge each and every member to pledge $1000.00 payable @ $50.00 per month toward the building fund.  If just 100 of our 350 members make this pledge, it will raise our building fund by $100,000.00. That will get us to ground breaking. All we need is the pledge. $50.00 a month won't kill anyone.  Why should we make such a pledge? Think about the impact this facility will have on SCW.  It will attract new residents, improve the value of our homes, and make SCW a beacon to those who want to live in a vibrant community.  I and 3 others have made this commitment as of yesterday.  All we need is another 97 of you to step up.  Let's help fund something that will put the community on the map as a "must visit" attraction It is always a small group in any organization that makes the difference.  Make the difference !
