Is the NYT Incapable of Truth-Telling?

by Stephen Lendman

Is the Times so addicted to fake news over the real thing that it's no longer capable of reporting truth and full disclosure?

On all things related to Russia and its special military operation in Ukraine, fake news alone is featured.

Not a kernel of straight talk seeps through.

Its latest edition is no different from earlier ones.

Here's how the Times portrays remaining Nazified Ukrainian thugs holed up in Mariupol's Azovstal steel plant.

Russia's Defense Ministry gave them a deadline as follows, saying:

"Considering the catastrophic situation at the Azovstal metallurgical plant, and being guided by purely humane principles, the Russian Armed Forces offer militants of nationalist battalions and foreign mercenaries to stop hostilities and lay down their arms starting 6am Moscow time on April 17, 2022," adding:

"All who lay down their weapons are guaranteed the preservation of life."

Remaining Nazified Ukrainian fighters and mercenaries cut from the same mold face a "hopeless situation with virtually no food and water."

Based on intercepted radio communications, they "persistently request(ed) permission from officials in Kiev to lay down their arms and surrender."

In response they were forbidden to surrender "under the threat of wartime executions," according to Moscow.

Overnight Saturday, terms of surrender were "broadcast continuously throughout the night to Ukrainian formations at Azovstal on all radio channels at 30-minute intervals," Russia's Defense Ministry explained.

According to Times fake news, elements holding out in the Azovstal plant were given a choice to surrender by Sunday morning "or be eliminated (sic)."

Indeed they'll be eliminated by starvation and dehydration if stay holed up underground in the plant.

The statement by Russia's Defense Ministry said they'll be "guaranteed the preservation of life" — what the Times ignored, along with what's reported above in its entirety.

Instead, its fake news report falsely accused Russian forces of "intensif(ying) (its) assault (on the city) with missiles and bombs" — a bald-faced Big Lie.

Except perhaps for a few scattered Ukrainian fighters in the Mariupol, it's been entirely liberated by Russian and Donbass forces — other than Nazis and mercenaries still inside the steel plant.

No Russian assault on the city occurred with missiles and bombs, no "new attacks" elsewhere in the liberated city.

Saying "the struggle…for Mariupol (is) not over" belies reality.

For the first time in years, the Donbass city is nearly free from the scourge of Nazified Ukrainian occupation.

In the coming weeks, the same reality will be true for Donbass entirely.

Fake news Times reports are full of invented claims about Russian missiles and bombs targeting residential and other areas with concentrations of civilians.

Polar opposite is reality as I've stressed in earlier articles.

Here's how the Times describes Nazified thugs comprising the Azov battalion, ones guilty or torturing and dismembering the bodies of Russian POWs and Ukrainian dissidents, those opposed to fascist tyranny:

"One of the groups leading the defense of Mariupol is the Azov Battalion, a unit of the Ukrainian National Guard that has drawn far-right fighters from around the world."

The above remarks practically endorse Nazism instead of condemning it.

And it omits explaining how viciously Azov fighters operate extrajudicially.

The Times quoted puppet Zelensky saying:

"We support them as much as we can."

"(T)hey are carrying out one of the most powerful and important missions today (sic)."

And this from the Times:

"Russia's deadline on Sunday raised concerns of further carnage in Mariupol (sic)."

No such threat exists outside the confines of Azovstal and its immediate surroundings.

Yet according to Times fake news:

"Mariupol has been under near-constant bombardment since late February, including bombings of a maternity ward and a theater that was being used as a civilian bomb shelter, and many parts of the city have been destroyed (sic)."

The above and similar rubbish was thoroughly debunked by cold, hard, indisputable facts — what's suppressed in Times fake news reports.

Here's more, the Times falsely claiming:

Russia "killed tens of thousands of people in Mariupol and that more than 100,000 people remained trapped there with little access to food or water (sic)."

Russia poured thousands of tons of humanitarian aid in areas its forces liberated, including Mariupol.

Days earlier, Tass reported the following:

"Russia has delivered nearly 10,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukraine since March 2 and has carried out 781 humanitarian missions, (according to) Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev, chief of Russia's National Defense Management Center."

Russia alone opened and protected humanitarian corridors for Ukrainians to reach safe haven areas.

I can't remember a single Times or other MSM report that explained anything related to Russia's concern for civilians, including generous amounts of humanitarian aid provided.

Instead according to Times fake news on Monday:

"For more than a month, Russians blocked humanitarian convoys taking food and medicine to Mariupol (sic)."

"The UN called for Russia to enable civilians to flee Mariupol, so far without success (sic)."

Russia alone helped thousands in Mariupol leave the city safely.

Azov Nazis held civilians as human shields.

Some are likely trapped in Azovstal as hostages.

Not a word about this crime against humanity by the Times or other MSM.

And this Times fake news:

"Despite Russia's military might, Ukrainian forces have continued to have success defending their country (sic)."

The Times mocked Russia's "special military operation" — precisely what it with specific publicly stated objectives in mind.

I explained them in previous articles.

The Times further defied reality by falsely claiming that nonexistent Russian "atrocities in Ukraine have deep roots in (its) military (sic)."

It lied claiming that Russian soldiers are "murder(ing) civilians and "rap(ing) women" in Ukraine.

It lied accusing "Russian society (of) condon(ing) violence against civilians (sic)."

It lied claiming that "Russian soldiers…can…kill (Ukrainian) civilians with impunity (sic)."

During Bush/Cheney's rape and destruction of Iraq, brigade commander, Col. Michael Steele, ordered US troops to kill every military-aged Iraqi on sight.

In his book titled "War Without Mercy," John Dower documented viciousness by both sides in the Pacific — the US as unprincipled as the Japanese.

US forces mutilated its war dead for body part souvenirs.

They sank hospital ships, shooting sailors abandoning them.

Japanese pilots bailing out of warplanes were killed in cold blood. So were wounded enemy soldiers.

Prisoners were tortured and killed, other combatants buried alive, civilians slaughtered as mercilessly as military personnel.

Much the same goes on in all US wars — major crimes by any standard.

Yet the Times and other MSM don't consider the above war crimes news that's fit to print.

So it's suppressed, including in Ukraine by Nazified thugs.

Instead, Russian forces are falsely blamed for crimes of war and against humanity committed by Ukrainian forces.

That's the type of rubbish that the Times considers fit to print.

Truth and full disclosure are consistently banned in its daily fake news editions.
