Fighting in Afghanistan, No End to US Forever War

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

On Monday, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said its forces secured control over Afghanistan's Panjshir province in the country's north overnight, adding:

"(T)he war in Afghanistan is over. There is no more justification for it. The time has come to rebuild our country."

"Panjshir is part of our people, both its civilians and its fighters. We will build Afghanistan's common future together."

The so-called National Resistance Front (NRF) denied the claim, tweeting:

"Taliban's claim of occupying Panjshir is false."

"The NRF forces are present in all strategic positions across the valley to continue the fight."

"We assure the ppl of Afghanistan that the struggle against the Taliban & their partners will continue until justice & freedom prevails."

Fighting has been ongoing since late August. On Sunday, NRF leader Ahmad Massoud said the following:

"To reach a lasting peace, the NRF is ready to stop fighting on condition that Taliban also stop their attacks and military movements on Panjshir and Andarab."

Before fighting began in the province last month, the Taliban sought to resolve differences with the NRF diplomatically.

Talks reportedly failed because its leadership demanded autonomy, rejecting the Taliban's offer for them to be part of inclusive governance.

By audio message reported by Al Jazeera and other media, NRF leader Massoud called for a "national uprising" against the Taliban.

"Wherever you are, inside or outside, I call on you to begin a national uprising for the dignity, freedom, and prosperity of our country," he said.

Where did NRF weapons come from? Days earlier, Al Jazeera said their fighters are patrolling areas of the province in "US-made Humvees and…pickup trucks" equipped with machine guns.

They're using "assault rifles (and) rocket-propelled grenades."

Were they supplied by the Pentagon and CIA to wage proxy war on the Taliban — along with using ISIS, al-Qaeda and perhaps other jihadists deployed to the country for the same purpose?

Last week, Taliban fighters reportedly surrounded Panjshir, blocking roads into the province.

According to Afghanistan analyst Martine van Bijlert, "(w)hereas both sides mainly seemed to be trying to hurt each other in order to strengthen their hand in negotiations…the Taliban… summon(ed) forces from other provinces."

It's unclear if NRF fighters were entirely defeated or if pockets of resistance remain.

Given overwhelming Taliban strength, along with surrounding Panjshir with its forces, NRF resistance will likely be subdued if not already.

Separately according to Politico, the Biden regime and Pentagon may continue US forever war on Afghanistan from two aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf and/or Arabian Sea.

According to an anonymous US navy official, "a lot of th(e) mission is going to fall on" naval forces.

Claims by Biden regime hardliners about concern over the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan left unexplained that the jihadist group fighters are recruited, funded, armed, trained and directed by the Pentagon and CIA.

They operate in areas of nations where deployed, transported there by US aircraft, resupplied as needed.

Pentagon/CIA operations against in Afghanistan will aid them combat the Taliban, along with continuing misery for long-suffering Afghans if what they likely intend goes as planned.

According to Politico, the Biden regime "pledged to continue to launch 'over the horizon' airstrikes from drones and manned aircraft."

Pretending to attack Pentagon/CIA supported ISIS foot soldiers, their mission will be all about no end to US forever war on Afghanistan and its people, what Politico left unexplained.

Chances of either wing of the US war party turning a page on Afghanistan by walking away are virtually nil.

Clearly not after spending trillions of dollars seeking unchallenged control over the country and its resources.

It's been hard-wired US policy for decades — since Jimmy Carter supported mujahideen fighters against Soviet Russia.

Forever US war on the country continues by new tactics and familiar ones, by hot and other means to try regaining what Taliban fighters achieved at its expense.

Will over 40 years of US failure become successful ahead in the graveyard of empires?

The US hasn't won a war since WW II ended over 75 years ago.

On all things Afghanistan, that dubious distinction is highly unlikely to change no matter how many more years of war go on and trillions more dollars are spent on "the grand illusion of the American cause" — what the CIA once called Vietnam.

A Final Comment

Interviewed by the UK-owned and controlled BBC propaganda operation — hawkish GOP Senator Lindsey Graham said the following:

"We will be going back to Afghanistan…because the threat will be so large (sic)," adding:

"Here is my solution (sic)."

"Help the resistance in the Panjshir valley."

"The Taliban will not be able to govern Afghanistan (sic)."

"What's gonna happen over time as you see the resistance rise?"

(US-supported) "ISIS will come after the Taliban…and the entire country is going to fracture in the next year, creating a perfect storm for Western interests to be attacked (sic)."

The US remains in Afghanistan, withdrawing only combat troops — likely not all of them with covert ones likely remaining, along with CIA operatives, paramilitary hired guns and private military contractors.

Will Pentagon combat troops return in large numbers?

Will another 9/11 type made-in-the-USA false flag bring them back?

Letting go isn't how hegemon USA operates.

Its forever war on humanity at home and abroad won't likely end in our lifetime.
