Nuclear Menace USA

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Thermonuclear armed and dangerous USA poses an unparalleled threat to world peace and humanity's survival by waging endless preemptive wars on invented enemies.

The only nation ever to nuke another one gratuitously could do it again in pursuit of its hegemonic aims

Along with its other super-weapons, the US maintains an imposing nuclear arsenal.

According to the Arms Control Association, it has "1,373 strategic nuclear warheads deployed on 655 intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and strategic bombers."

It has "an estimated 150 B-61 nuclear gravity bombs" at NATO bases in Italy, Germany, Turkey, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Its total warheads number around 5,800.

Bush/Cheney's December 2001 Nuclear Posture Review (NPR), asserted Washington's preemptive right to unilaterally declare and wage future wars using first strike nuclear weapons.

Madness and war on humanity remain official US policy.

Obama/Biden's 2010 and 2015 National Security Strategies pledged US first-strike use of nukes against any adversary, nuclear armed or not.

Their regime approved a $1 trillion program to upgrade America's nuclear arsenal over the next 30 years.

Trump went the same way. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the nuclear weapons upgrade plan he inherited will cost about $1.2 trillion over the next 30 years.

The Arms Control Association earlier estimated the 30 year cost at up to $1.7 trillion.

From Bush/Cheney to Obama/Biden to Trump and likely to Biden/Harris, US Nuclear Posture Review/National Security Strategies pledge unilateral first-strike use of these WMDs at the discretion of its policymakers against invented adversaries of its choice — nuclear armed or not.

Ignored by US regimes is that the  only way to prevent the risk of armageddon from these weapons is by eliminating them altogether before they eliminate us.

Last week at the 28th Annual ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting, interventionist Blinken ignored the unparalleled threat posed by the USA's nuclear arsenal and intent to use it at its discretion.

According to the State Department readout of his remarks, he focused on nonthreatening China — "not(ing) deep concern (about the nonexistent) rapid growth of the PRC's nuclear arsenal (sic).

According to the Arms Control Association, China has "about 320 total warheads"— compared to thousands maintained by the Pentagon at home and abroad.

Yet Blinken falsely accused Beijing of "sharply deviat(ing) from its decades-old nuclear strategy based on minimum deterrence," according to State Department reported fake news.

Ignored by Blinken was that after Bush/Cheney unilaterally withdrew from the landmark 1972 ABM Treaty — that prohibited  development, testing and deployment of missile defenses which the US intends for offense — Russia and China acted defensively  to protect their national security.

Putin earlier explained the following:

"When one party unilaterally withdrew from the treaty and said it was going to create an anti-nuclear umbrella, the other party ha(d) to either create a similar umbrella – the necessity of which we are not sure about considering its questionable efficiency – or create effective ways to overcome this anti-ballistic missile system and improve its strike capabilities."

Belligerent US policy that threatens other nations requires them to protect against possible aggression.

The US asserts the right to operate extrajudicially by its own rules while demanding that other nations bend to it will.

All independent nations free from US control threaten no others.

The US and its imperial partners threaten everyone everywhere — at home and abroad.

Time and again, their ruling regimes falsely blame other nations for their own international law breaches — including crimes of war, against humanity and genocide.

China is willing to discuss strategic issues with the US "on the basis of equality and mutual respect."

So do Russia, Iran and other nations free from its control.

Dominant US hardliners from both wings of its war party want none of it — demanding subservience from the world community of nations.

Wars by hot and/or other means are their favored strategies against nations nations free from its control.

It's why world peace, stability, respect for their sovereign rights and the rule of law remain off the table — regardless of which wing of the US one-party state runs things.
