Inventing Reasons to Bash Nonbelligerent Iran

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Unexplained in the West and apartheid Israel is that Iran attacked no other nations for centuries.

Since established, the Islamic Republic has been committed to peace, cooperative relations with other nations and compliance with international law.

Its geopolitical agenda is polar opposite US/Western/Israeli war on humanity at home and abroad.

Yet nonbelligerent Iran continues to be falsely accused of all sorts of things it had nothing to do with.

On Friday, the Times of Israel quoted former IDF chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot's bald-faced Big Lie, saying:

"We can see today that the (Trump regime's) exit from the (JCPOA) and maximum pressure campaign and actions against Iran led to some achievements (sic), but we can't deny the fact that Iran is the closest it's been to a bomb in its capabilities (sic)…"

Like other Israeli officials and Western ones, Eisenkot turned truth on its head about Iran — while ignoring nuclear armed and dangerous Israel, a nation waging forever war on Palestinians, as well as against neighboring states at its discretion.

Since usurping power, the unelected Biden regime continued longstanding US war on Iran by other means — while pretending support for returning to JCPOA compliance.

Last month, the Justice Department blocked access to dozens of Iranian websites — including Press TV, now accessible through presstv.ir — on the phony pretext of reporting disinformation, a longstanding US/Western specialty, polar opposite how Iran and its media operate.

Time and again, the US falsely accuses Iran of conducting or supporting attacks on regional Pentagon forces and facilities.

Iran's UN envoy Majid Takht Ravanchi slammed the phony claim, saying:

"Any claim to attribute to Iran...any attack carried out against American personnel or facilities in Iraq (or elsewhere regionally) is factually wrong and void of the minimum requirements of authenticity and reliability," adding:

"The US argument that (its regional aggression was) conducted to deter…Iran and the so-called Iran-backed militia groups from conducting or supporting further attacks...has no factual or legal ground, as it is founded on mere fabrication…"

Whenever occur, US attacks "are conducted in flagrant violation of international law."

Days earlier, the pro-war NYT expressed support for Biden regime aggression against Iraqi Popular Mobilization Unit freedom fighters, saying:

It "decision to strike (them) demonstrate(d) (a US) willing to use force to defend American interests (sic), while keeping open a fragile diplomatic line of communication as the two countries try to resuscitate the 2015 deal limiting Iran's nuclear program (sic)."

Separately, the Times repeated the long ago debunked claim about Iran's nonexistent "march toward the capacity to build a nuclear weapon (sic)."

Further Big Lies followed — based on US-supplied talking points, including the phony claim about Iranian "support for terrorist groups (sic)" and disinformation about its legitimate ballistic missile program for defense, not offense like the West and Israel operate.

What the Times called "rein(ing) in the Iranians" is all about continuing US/Western war on the country by other means with no letup inn prospect.

According to interventionist Blinken, unjustifiable US aggression is "necessary, appropriate, deliberate action (sic) that is designed to limit the risk of escalation (sic), but also to send a clear and unambiguous deterrent message (sic)."

US aggression and other hostile actions are conducted in pursuit of its diabolical hegemonic aims to control other nations, their resources and populations — in defiance of international and constitutional law.

On Friday, Sergey Lavrov slammed the Trump regime for "unilaterally withdr(awing) from the (JCPOA), thereby grossly violat(ing) UN Security Council Resolution (2231)…"

He stressed that what happened "presupposes a full and unconditional (US) renewal" of its obligations under international law.

"Iran complied in full with everything that it promised to deliver and continue(s) to fulfill these obligations."

Instead of returning to JCPOA compliance, Biden regime hardliners "are trying to take advantage of this situation in every possible way in order to change the JCPOA in retrospect and impose new obligations on Iran not only in the context of the JCPOA itself, but also on completely unrelated matters."

"Our position is straightforward.

"Resume 100% compliance with the JCPOA and UN Security Council Resolution 2231."

Other issues should be discussed "separately" once US compliance with its JCPOA obligations is restored.

Lavrov and Iran know that Biden regime hardliners have no intention of returning to JCPOA compliance as affirmed by SC Res. 2231 in 2015.

That unacceptable position leaves Vienna talks at impasse.

Biden regime hardliners continue illegally imposed maximum pressure on Iran.

Chances for improved US relations with the Islamic Republic are virtually nil.

What's been off-the-table since its liberating 1979 revolution is nowhere in sight now.
