Netanyahu's Reign of Terror Over?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Late Wednesday, Israel's Lapid/Bennett-led 8-party coalition informed outgoing ceremonial president Rivlin that they cobbled together a 61-seat Knesset majority to replace (c)rime minister Netanyahu once and for all.

Agreement came close to the bewitching hour deadline.

Had they failed, the 120-seat Knesset would have had three weeks to agree on a new government.

If unable to achieve it, a fifth election since April 2019 would have followed.

Bennett, then Lapid, will each serve two years as prime minister, according to their rotational agreement.

Likudnik Speaker Yariv Levin can delay swearing in of a new government up to seven days, giving Netanyahu time to try unraveling it.

On Thursday, the Lapid/Bennett-led coalition initiated a process to replace Netanyahu ally Levin as Knesset speaker, according to Israeli media.

The move aims to expedite the new government's swearing into office — to formally end Netanyahu's reign of terror.

According to the Jerusalem Post (JP), unnamed sources close to Levin said he'll delay the swearing in process as long as legally allowed.

It would either be "seven days after the coalition was formed, or the Monday after that" — June 9 or 13.

Once a new coalition government speaker replaces Levin, it'll be able to formally control the Knesset.

Reportedly Lapid-led Yesh Atid party's Mickey Levy is its choice for the post.

According to Haaretz, a formal request for Levy to replace Levin was "signed by 61 out of 120 lawmakers…"

It "means a vote on the key position is set for the next time the Knesset convenes on Monday" June 7.

At this time, it's unclear if transition of power will come on this date or days later.

Key is that Netanyahu's tenure as (c)rime minister appears over.

For Occupied Palestinians and Israeli Arab citizens, apartheid Zionist tyranny remains empowered like always before — new names and faces, same Israeli state terror and belligerence.

Even though for the first time in Jewish state history an Arab party will be part of Israel's government — Mansour Abbas-led United Arab List — reality for long-suffering Palestinians won't change.

Gazans will continue to be isolated and oppressed in the world's largest ope-air prison.

Palestinians throughout the Occupied Territories will still be displaced from their homes and land to make way for exclusive Jewish development and use.

Militarized rule over Palestinians will continue to oppress them.

Modest concessions gotten by M. Abbas for enabling the opposition coalition to replace Netanyahu are too little to matter and may be short-lived.

Saying he "reached a critical mass of agreements in various fields that serves the interest of Arab society and that provide solutions for the burning issues in Arab society — planning, the housing crisis, and of course, fighting violence and organized crime" — greatly exaggerated reality.

The Times of Israel explained that "Arab parties (virtually) always remained on the outside of the decision-making process in Israeli politics."

"Jewish parties shunned them as extremists, while they themselves were often skeptical of joining an Israeli government they deem treats them as second class citizens and oppresses Palestinians."

Likud Knesset member Fateen Mulla called promises to United Arab List "empty talk…lies…political games."

Haaretz columnist Gideon Levy asked: "You call this a government of change?"

Dirty business as usual defines how Israel operates.

Zionist tyranny posing as democratic governance fools no one paying attention.

Palestinians are denied rights afforded Jews.

Throughout Jewish state history, they've been subjugated by state terror and intimidation — how the scourge of Zionist tyranny oppresses them for the "crime" of not being Jewish.
