Farcical Putin/Biden Summit if Held

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Cognitively impaired Biden can no longer get his facts straight or complete a sentence without mumbling and bumbling, at times incoherently.

It's why an impersonator represents him in public, most Americans unaware of the charade.

What Washington insiders and pro-Dem establishment media know but won't explain, Russia is surely aware of.

What's can a world leader of Putin's stature hope for from meeting with a US imposter president?

What can be accomplished, especially when bilateral relations are more dismal than any previous time in modern memory?

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, "(i)t is unlikely that just from the very first (summit) meeting, the parties will find common ground on the issues causing deep divisions."

Peskov added that "play(ing) down the importance of this meeting" is ill-advised.

Perhaps so, perhaps not.

If no chance exists for anything positive, what's the point of considerable preparations to come up empty — notably because Putin will be dealing with an imposter who knows no more than what's scripted for him and has no decision-making authority.

No signing of any documents will take place, Peskov added. "It is not being planned," he said.

At this time, it's scheduled for June 16 in Geneva.

A Kremlin press statement said current bilateral relations, strategic stability, regional conflicts, and other international issues will be discussed.

On Monday, Sergey Lavrov stressed the dismal state of Russian/US relations, saying:

"The Americans are currently conducting an openly unfriendly policy towards Russia, adopting sanctions and making unsubstantiated accusations and other hostile moves, including uncalled for public acts," adding:

"Taken together, this has created a highly toxic environment hindering the development of a calm and professional dialogue between our countries."

Russia prioritizes peace, stability, cooperative relations with other countries, and compliance with the rule of law.

The US-dominated West's agenda is polar opposite.

With regard to Putin's planned meeting with Biden's double in mid-June, Lavrov said the following:

"We are willing to discuss and coordinate solutions to any topics on the bilateral agenda, as well as to work together to settle global problems and regional conflicts and crises."

"The main thing is for our dialogue to be based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and a balance of interests."

For the US, that objective will be off-the-table in Geneva and everywhere else.

It's been nearly two months since Russia recalled its envoy to Washington Anatoly Antonov for consultations.

Staying away this long is clearly because of rock-bottom bilateral relations, short of severing them altogether.

Asked about escalated conflict by Ukraine against Donbass, Lavrov explained that it began following the Obama/Biden regime's early 2014 coup — replacing democratic governance with fascist tyranny.

Kiev "refuse(s) to recognize (the) legitimate interests" of Donetsk and Lugansk in Donbass, said Lavrov.

It rejected conflict resolution as ordered by its higher power in Washington — along with falsely blaming Russia for its ruling regime's high crimes.

Lavrov also pointed out the hostile US-dominated NATO military buildup "in Ukraine and the Black Sea."

"They are sending weapons and providing financial and material assistance to the Ukrainian army, as well as teaching the Ukrainian military the NATO methods of warfare."

"Seven joint military exercises with NATO countries are to be held in Ukraine in 2021 alone."

"Ukrainian troops are taking part in the large-scale NATO exercise Defender Europe 2021."

"Russia has to take all of this into account in its military planning."

What's going on also fuels aggression by Ukraine on Donbass.

Zelensky is a puppet president beholden to his US master.

On Russian Relations with EU bloc countries, Lavrov said they're "reduced to a minimum" because of unacceptable hostility by Brussels toward Moscow.

"In 2014, Brussels, acting under US pressure, as the Americans themselves admitted openly, destroyed the architecture of  cooperation which took two decades to create," Lavrov explained.

Russia still seeks cooperative relations with the West "in the spirit of pragmatism and mutual respect based on the universally recognized norms of international law."

"It is on the basis of these principles that we are successfully developing relations with the overwhelming majority of states in Eurasia, Africa and Latin America."

The decadent US-dominated West has other ideas as Lavrov and other Russian officials understand well.

It's why a Russia/US summit will be an exercise in futility.

Virtually certain to achieve nothing toward improving bilateral relations, it'll be a waste of time — if held.

Because Biden is cognitively unable to represent himself and his know-nothing impersonator is a shadow of Putin's stature on the world stage, perhaps Washington will invent a reason to call the whole thing off at the 11th hour or sooner.
