China Slams Hostile US-Led Five Eyes Statement on Hong Kong

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The so-called Five Eyes (FVEY) is a US-led intelligence-sharing alliance with the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Washington calls the shots, other FVEY nations salute and obey.

On Sunday, their Pompeo-led foreign ministers issued an unacceptable joint statement, relating to US war on China by other means, saying in part:

The US and its FVEY imperial partners oppose the "postponement of (Hong Kong) Legislative Council elections" — falsely claiming this action "undermine(s) (the city's) democratic process (sic)," adding:

Beijing's national security law "erode(s) the Hong Kong people's fundamental rights and liberties (sic)."

These countries, especially the US and Britain, never met a sovereign independent nation free from imperial control they didn't want smashed and colonized.

China's Ottawa embassy slammed the US-led hostile statement, saying the following:

"The statement (by FVEY) foreign ministers ignored the facts, harbored ulterior motives, toyed with double standards, interfered in China's internal affairs, and was full of arrogance and prejudice, seriously violating international law and the basic norms of international relations."

"China expresses its strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this."

Core international law forbids nations from interfering in the internal affairs of others, what the US and its imperial partners do time and again worldwide.

Hong Kong elections were postponed, not cancelled, for public health reasons because of increasing COVID-19 outbreaks.

China's national security law was adopted to counter months of US orchestrated violence, vandalism, and chaos in Hong Kong that were led by 5th column US proxies.

They were all about aiming to destabilize and weaken China by attacking its soft underbelly.

Hong Kong is sovereign Chinese territory. Hostile UK colonization ended in 1997. Chinese laws apply to the city.

Article 23 of the Basic Law that regulates relations between Beijing and Hong Kong's Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) states the following:

City authorities are responsible for "prohibit(ing) any act of treason, secession, sedition, subversion against the Central People's Government, or theft of state secrets, to prohibit foreign political organizations or bodies from conducting political activities in the Region, and to prohibit political organizations or bodies of the Region from establishing ties with foreign political organizations or bodies."

None of the above was accomplished by the HKSAR so Beijing acted to protect national security from hostile foreign actions that aim to weaken and undermine China's sovereignty and development — mainly by both right wings of the US war party.

The most fundamental responsibility of all nations is to protect them and their people from foreign threats — what China's national security law is all about.

Separately, China's Global Times slammed "fascist" Trump regime policies, especially reflected by Pompeo's hostile rhetoric and actions, what it called an "us v. them" mentality, including by portraying China as public enemy No. One.

The Trump regime and other US hardliners "spread (phony) conspiracy theories about China's 'pursuit of hegemony' " — how Washington operates, not Beijing.

China's official People's Daily broadsheet slammed "dirty tricks" by Pompeo and other Trump regime hardliners — "dragg(ing)  the world's most important relationship into a dangerous zone."

In response to unacceptable Trump regime sanctions on 11 Hong Kong officials, including its chief executive Carrie Lam, Beijing responded in kind.

On Monday, China's Foreign Ministry announced sanctions on Senators Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Tom Cotton, Josh Hawley and Pat Toomey.

Also targeted were Rep. Chris Smith, Freedom House president Michael Abramowitz, Human Rights executive director Kenneth Roth, NED president Carl Gershman, as well as heads of the National Dem Institute and International Republican Institute, no Trump regime officials included.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian announced the sanctions, saying the following:

"In response to the US' wrong behaviors, China has decided to impose sanctions on those individuals who behaved badly on Hong Kong-related issues."

He didn't indicate what the sanctions entail. These figures most likely are banned from entering Chinese territory.
