The NYT Russia Bashing Obsession

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The self-styled newspaper of record never met a foreign government not controlled by the US it didn't want denigrated, vilified, and eliminated.

It never met hard truths about them it didn't suppress, featuring state-approved propaganda over journalism the way it's supposed to be.

Russia has been a prime Times target for over a century, except during WW II to focus on defeating Nazi Germany and during the Yeltsin years — a pathetic pro-Western figure who wrecked the country throughout most of the 1990s.

Under Vladimir Putin, Russia was no longer willing to roll over for Washington, no longer willing to sacrifice its sovereign rights to US interests, seeking cooperative relations instead — why he's reviled by its hardliners, the Times, and other establishment media.

A dozen ago I explained that things were back to the future in US relations with Moscow, a New Cold War following the decades-long earlier one, reinventing a new Russian evil empire.

Today the stakes are much greater because of a hostile bipartisan takeover of Washington by a militantly hardline criminal class.

Both right wings of the US war party are waging endless preemptive wars on humanity in multiple theaters, risking nuclear war to satisfy their rage for unchallenged global dominance.

Russia, China, and Iran top their list for regime change by whatever it takes to transform them into US vassal states.

Along with other establishment media, the Times is a mouthpiece for US wealth, power, and imperial interests.

Its latest anti-Russia propaganda piece revisited the Kremlin hacking Big Lie.

In December 2019, so-called Evil Corp hackers were charged and sanctioned by the US for allegedly stealing $100 million and being Russian spies — despite help from Moscow in identifying and capturing them.

At the time, Trump regime Treasury Secretary Mnuchin accused them of working for Russian intelligence, claiming Moscow "enlist(s) cybercriminals for its own malicious purposes (sic)."

Like countless times before, credible evidence supporting US accusations was nonexistent.

At the time, Russian envoy to Washington Anatoly Antonov debunked the false accusations, calling them "baseless" — based on Big Lies, not facts.

The NYT revisited the issue, claiming the alleged Evil Corp hacking group resurfaced, adding:

"American officials worry election infrastructure could be next (sic)."

Alleged Russian hackers are "attempting to get inside (the) networks (of major US corporations) and a major news organization…with malware intended to cripple their operations (sic)."

The US Treasury claims the alleged hackers "work for Russian intelligence."

The Big Lie about Russian 2016 US election meddling to help Trump triumph over Hillary was invented by Obama regime CIA director John Brennan.

The fake news was proliferated throughout the presidential campaign by the Times and other establishment media.

The self-styled newspaper of record is at it again, falsely claiming mysterious Kremlin-backed hackers aim "to throw the Nov. 3 election into chaos (sic)."

The Times quoted an FBI warning about alleged threats to attack the US election infrastructure, saying:

"The (agency) assesses that ransomware infections delivered through (internet service providers) to US county and state government networks will likely threaten the availability of data on interconnected election servers."

Claiming it's a Kremlin plot ignores that accusations of Russian 2016 election meddling were long ago debunked.

Key also is what possible benefit could Russia or any other nations get by trying to influence the results of US presidential or congressional elections when they always turn out the same way — dirty business as usual always winning.

The Times propaganda piece named no companies alleged Russian hackers are targeting, claiming they include 31 "Fortune 500 firms," adding:

"Moscow has protected Evil Corp.'s hackers from extradition, and they are unlikely to stand trial in the United States."

Moscow helped the US identify so-called Evil Corp hackers last year.

Not a shred of evidence suggests Russian involvement in hacking, targeting, or threatening US corporations in any way, no involvement in wanting the US electoral process compromised.

Yet the Treasury Department claimed alleged Russian hackers work for its intelligence service, adding:

They're "tasked to work on projects for the Russian state (sic), to include acquiring confidential documents through cyber-enabled means and conducting cyber-enabled operations on its behalf (sic)."

No evidence was cited or mentioned by the Times because none exists.

With around four months to go before US November 3 presidential, congressional, state, and local elections, lots more phony claims about Russian US election meddling by the Times and other establishment media are virtually certain.
