State Department Report on Iran: An Exercise in Hate-Mongering Propaganda

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Annual State Department country reports on human rights go all out to vilify nations unwilling to surrender their sovereign rights to US interests.

They also omit discussion of the world's leading human rights abuser USA — far and away the most egregious violator of international, constitutional, and its own statute laws, operating solely to advance its diabolical aims at the expense of the world community and ordinary people everywhere.

Iran hasn't preemptively attacked another country in centuries. It seeks cooperative relations with other nations, not dominance over them by pressuring, bullying, or smashing them — the way the US operates worldwide.

Its belligerent ruling class is contemptuous of peace, equity, justice, the rule of law, and governance of, by, and for everyone democratically, notions it abhors.

Iran is a good neighbor, the US hostile to nations it doesn't control, an unparalleled menace on the world stage.

Its country report on Iran criticized how its Guardian Council operates, claiming it "disqualif(ies) (political) candidates based on political or other considerations, and controls the election process (sic)."

The GC indeed vets candidates. So does the US political system, party bosses controlling things.

They, in turn, are controlled by the power of big money.

Corporate America buys politicians like toothpaste, assuring monied interests are exclusively served at the expense of the public welfare.

From inception, democracy in America was and continues to be pure illusion. None whatever exists, pretense alone.

Its system is all about governance of, by, and for privileged interests at the expense of ordinary Americans — exploited, not served.

American exceptionalism and moral superiority don't exist. The state of the nation is deplorable – more an obscenity than a responsible sovereign state.

The illusion of democracy conceals an increasingly totalitarian plutocracy, oligarchy and kleptocracy — growing tyranny wrapped in the American flag.

Elections are farcical when held. Dirty business as usual wins every time.

If the US electoral process pushed the envelope for positive change, it would be banned.

The world's richest nation doesn't give a hoot about ordinary people at home and abroad. Only its privileged class matters, no one else.

Targeting truth-tellers like Julian Assange and whistleblowers like Chelsea Manning are all about wanting the message controlled, alternative views silenced, including information vital for everyone to know.

Iran operates by a higher standard. I'm one of many examples of how it delivers real news, information, and analysis to the Iranian people.

I'm interviewed often by Press TV, Mehr News, Tasnim News, Fars News, and other Iranian media — allowed to voice my views freely, uncensored on major geopolitical issues.

I've never been invited on US major media to discuss them — with one exception.

Several times I was invited on a local Fox News radio station, allowed to speak freely on major issues for around 30 minutes.

Twice I was pre-screened for an on-air interview by the BBC on separate issues. No invitation followed in response to the views I expressed — the truth and nothing short of it.

Twice I was interviewed by Al Jazeera, each time taped. When aired, my most important comments were edited out by censors — truth-telling on major issues they wanted suppressed.

The State Department's Iran report falsely blamed its ruling authorities for US orchestrated high crimes committed against the country and its people.

It falsely accused Tehran of unfair trials, "arbitrary killings, forced disappearance(s), and torture by government agents…"

It piled on more false accusations, including "arbitrary detention(s) and imprisonment; harsh and life-threatening prison conditions; hundreds of political prisoners; unlawful interference with privacy; significant problems with independence of the judiciary…severe restrictions on free expression…prosecution (of) journalists, censorship…(opposition to) peaceful assembly… arbitrary killings, forced disappearance, and torture by government agents, as well as systematic use of arbitrary detention and imprisonment; harsh and life-threatening prison conditions; hundreds of political prisoners; unlawful interference with privacy; significant problems with independence of the judiciary, particularly the revolutionary courts; severe restrictions on free expression, etc, etc, etc.

All of the above and lots more piled on is how the US, NATO, Israel, and their imperial partners operate, not the Islamic Republic.

Accusing Iran as well of "materially contribut(ing) to human rights abuses in Syria, through…military support for President Bashar Assad and Hezballah forces got things backwards.

Invited by Damascus, Iranian military advisors and Hezbollah forces are aiding Syria's military combat US supported ISIS and other terrorists.

The US is an illegal occupier, at war on Syria, using jihadists as proxy troops, supported by Pentagon-led terror-bombing.

US aggression is ongoing in multiple theaters, along with war by other means against numerous countries, including Iran.

Its hostile geopolitical actions flagrantly violate international law and its own Constitution — the highest of high crimes of war, against humanity and genocide in multiple theaters.

Longstanding US policy is all about pressuring, bullying, bribing, and/or smashing nations to control them.

Iran operates by a higher standard. Opposing war, it seeks cooperative relations with other nations, hostile toward none except in self-defense if attacked, its fundamental UN Charter right.

The US threatens everyone everywhere. Iran is a valued ally.

In response to the State Department's falsified country report on Iran, its Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said the following:

"The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically rejects and condemns the US annual country reports on terrorism because that regime is blatantly shifting the blame onto others, is utterly insincere, and has double standards in the fight against terrorism," adding:

"The United States of America's regime, known as the biggest state sponsor of terrorism and the main sponsor of the aggressive and occupying Zionist regime, is in no position to claim to be fighting against terrorism and make judgments about this issue."

The US created ISIS, al-Qaeda, and likeminded terrorist groups, using them to advance its imperial agenda.

Iran is aiding Syria combat this scourge. The Islamic Republic and its people are victims of US state-sponsored terrorism.

Iran is on the right side of history. Imperial USA belongs in its dustbin, never again to terrorize humanity.
