The OPCW: A US Imperial Accomplice

The OPCW long ago abandoned its mandate for a "world free of chemical weapons." Other priorities take precedence.

The organization operates as an accomplice of the US imperial state, serving its hegemonic aims.

It's long past time to dissolve the OPCW and replace it with a truly independent chemical watchdog, free from ties to the US and West, one that will do its job.

The OPCW as it now exists lost all credibility. Too corrupted to change, it no longer can be taken seriously.

It's so-called "investigations" are political lynchings of US targeted enemies like Syria — while ignoring US, NATO, Israeli use of virtually every type of banned weapons imaginable, including CWs.

In mid-April, Russia's UN mission slammed the OPCW's so-called 2018 established "Investigation and Identification Team's (IIT)" April report on alleged Syrian use of CWs in Lataminah that never occurred.

Funding the IIT from the OPCW's regular budget is "illegitimate," Russia explained.

Decisions it renders violate the letter and spirit of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).

Activities of its so-called IIT are directed by the US and other dominant Western countries, "encroach(ing) on the exclusive powers of the UN Security Council."

They're aimed at vilifying and discrediting Washington's enemies like Syria.

Russia refuses to cooperate with IIT's diabolical agenda or help finance it. Nor does Moscow accept its findings that lack credibility.

The IIT's coordinator Santiago Onate-Laborde falsely accused "higher authorities" of Syria's "military command" of using sarin gas and chlorine "as…chemical weapon(s)" on March 24, 25, and 30 in Ltamenah.

Before issuing its hugely biased findings, the London Guardian reported on them.

Moscow asked "how and on what grounds did the Western media gain access to this classified information before it became available to OPCW member States?"

Why did the Guardian feature spurious claims about Syrian use of CWs that never happened by its forces throughout years of war.

According to Russia, "there is no difference with the vicious principles of the OPCW Fact Finding Mission in Syria (FFM) and the former OPCW-UN Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM)."

The IIT operates the same way, in the pocket of US-led Western interests, publishing material that demonizes their enemies unjustly.

In so-called FFM, JIM and IIT probes, invented evidence with no credibility is collected remotely from sources hostile to Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Hard truths from Damascus are ignored, the OPCW books cooked before probes begin, its results predetermined.

So-called OPCW investigations "are conducted in flagrant violation of the provisions of the CWC, without respecting the key principle of fulfilling procedures to ensure preservation of physical evidence (so-called "chain of custody"), which, inter alia, requires  the evidence to be collected on site and exclusively by (organization specialists," Russia explained.

"Unsubstantiated reports" on alleged CW use in various parts of Syria with no credibility "indisputabl(y) pro(ve" OPCW CWC "violations."

Its report on Lataminah states that "the majority of sources consisted of news media, blogs, and the websites of various non-governmental organizations," notably the al-Qaeda-linked White Helmets, a major CWC breach — rendering its report worthless like others on Syria.

No credible evidence supports the OPCW's claim that Syria's military used sarin gas, chlorine, or any other banned weapon.

Why would government forces attack the Syrian people with any weapons they're fighting to liberate from US supported terrorists.

Craters the OPCW cited from alleged explosions in Lataminah  do not correspond with the shape from an aerial chemical munition.

They do resemble what what a crater dug in the ground manually looks like.

"(R)esults of "analysis of samples from Lataminah and Khan Shaykhun are almost identical," Russia explained — "despite different meteorological, geographical, ballistic and other conditions," adding:

"It is crystal clear that the activities of the IIT, like those of the FFM (and JIM), are aimed at fulfilling the political order of a narrow group of (Western) states (and Israel)."

This was clearly demonstrated various times before. The OPCW operates as an instrument of US foreign policy against nations it targets for regime change.

Russia put it this way:

"(T)he OPCW's reputation as an authoritative expert body in the field of chemical disarmament has actually been sacrificed to the Middle East geopolitical ambitions of a small group of (US-led) countries."
