Illusory Ceasefire in Syria

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Throughout nine years of war, launched by the Obama/Biden regime, escalated by Trump/Pence, whenever ceasefires were declared, US-supported jihadists breached them straightaway — on orders from Washington.

This time is no different than earlier. What Putin and Turkey's Erdogan agreed to in Moscow on March 5 was and continues to be the illusion of ceasefire.

Despite both leaders meeting eight times last year to discuss ongoing war in Syria, nothing was achieved toward ending it — because of Erdogan's revanchist aims and US rejection of conflict resolution in all its war theaters.

According to Veterans Today, "(c)ommunications intercepts and intelligence" reports suggest that "US forces (plan) ambushes and suicide bombings against Turkish outposts in Idlib in order to bring about an end to the truce negotiated in Moscow between Erdogan and Trump on March 5."

If the above scenario occurs, a false flag, a longstanding US speciality, Syrian forces will likely be blamed for what they had nothing to do with — much like they were wrongfully blamed numerous times for CW incidents perpetrated by US supported jihadists.

Virtually straightaway after the latest Syria ceasefire took effect at one minute past midnight on March 6, fighting continued, some heavy, some sporadic, things sure to intensify ahead like always before.

Idlib jihadists are supported by the US, Turkey, and other NATO countries.

On Tuesday at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Trump envoy for regime change in Syria James Jeffries said the US-dominated alliance may aid Turkey against Russia and Syria in Idlib province.

"Everything is on the table," he roared, adding: "We'll see what happens next, what our allies are willing to put on the table, and then we'll see what the (US) can do to support them."

US aims are all about transforming Syria into client state, what nine years of Pentagon-led aggression failed to accomplish.

Nor is it likely to be more successful ahead as long as Russia remains committed to preserving Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Conflict resolution remains unattainable because achieving it will prevent the US from controlling Syria, isolating Iran regionally at the same time.

So endless war continues. It's just a matter of time before full-scale fighting in Idlib resumes.

On Monday, Southfront reported shelling incidents by jihadists on Syrian forces near Saraqib and Kafr Nabul.

Militantly hostile to Bashar al-Assad, Erdogan threatened resumption of strikes on Syrian forces if ceasefire fails to hold — suggesting the deal agreed to in Moscow could unravel at any time.

Occupying Turkish forces established new outposts in northern Syria for jihadists to use in attacking government forces and civilians.

On Wednesday, Business Insider reported that "(d)rones are dropping bombs on US troops in Syria, and it's not clear who's doing it" — citing a CENTCOM claim on Tuesday by its commander General Kenneth McKenzie.

If the report is accurate, is what's going on another US false flag? McKenzie said "possibly ISIS…not a state entity" was involved — ignoring US support for the terrorist group.

Russia and US-dominated NATO, Turkey, Israel, and the Saudis are on opposite sides of the Syria conflict.

On Monday, illegal US occupying forces in northern Syria blocked a Russian convoy from proceeding to its destination.

Tensions between both countries remain high as Russian forces involved in combatting jihadists come into close contact with US troops, operating in cahoots with the scourge vital to eliminate in Syria.
