No Letup in Anti-Russia/Syria/Iran Propaganda War

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

On Thursday in remarks to the press, war-mongering Trump regime hardliner Pompeo falsely accused Russia, Syria and Iran of committing war crimes against civilians in Idlib province — a US/NATO/Turkish/Israeli specialty, not how Moscow, Damascus and the Islamic Republic operate.

Ignoring Obama's war, now Trump's, Pompeo lied claiming the US "is trying to figure out how best to deliver less violence, more peace there, and stop the enormous humanitarian crisis" it bears full responsibility for he failed to explain, its junior partners sharing blame.

Pompeo called Turkish aggression in Idlib self-defense, supporting its war crimes along with the Trump regime's in multiple theaters, including Syria.

Separately, Pompeo never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity to bash Iran irresponsibly.

He lied claiming Tehran failed to declare the presence of nuclear material at a site where none exists.

He falsely accused Iran of failing to "cooperate with the IAEA and fully comply with its IAEA safeguards obligations."

No nation anywhere is more heavily monitored and more compliant with the watchdog organization than Iran — none more falsely accused of pursuing nuclear weapons development, clear evidence showing otherwise.

"All nations must hold Iran accountable to its commitments," Pompeo roared — ignoring nuclear armed and dangerous Israel, its ruling regimes banning IAEA inspectors. The same goes for the US.

Pompeo: "Iran continues to lie about its past nuclear weapons program (sic)."

None ever existed, none now, these weapons banned in Iran by an Islamic Republic fatwa, wanting them eliminated everywhere before they eliminate humanity.

Commenting on what Putin and Erdogan agreed on in Moscow Thursday, the NYT mocked Russia and Syria for calling US/Turkish supported cutthroat killers in Idlib "terrorists," falsely claiming they're "anti-government rebels."

Time and again, the self-styled newspaper of record calls Putin "a former KGB agent," expressing hostility toward the most prominent leader on the world stage, towering over his pygmy Western counterparts — notably Trump, BoJo, Macron and Merkel.

Ceasefire agreed to in Idlib is temporary and tenuous ahead of resumed conflict to liberate the province entirely, along with freeing Syrian civilians held captive by US/Turkish supported jihadists.

Ahead of the announced Idlib agreement in Moscow, the neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post falsely accused Syria "and its Russian and Iranian allies (of) bombarding…Idlib, continuing their wholesale slaughter of civilians (sic)."

The accusation is a bald-faced Big Lie. Iran has been aiding Damascus in an advisory capacity throughout the war, not by frontline involvement.

Russian and Syrian forces go all-out to protect civilians, combatting jihadists alone — polar opposite how US-dominated NATO and Israel operate, indiscriminately massacring civilians in all their wars of aggression.

Days earlier, Trump's envoy for regime change in Syria James Jeffrey and UN representative Kelly Craft entered northern Idlib illegally to meet with al-Qaeda-connected White Helmets.

They pledged aid for jihadists to continue massacring Syrian soldiers and civilians.

Following their Thursday talks, Putin said the following:

"We do not always agree with our Turkish partners in our assessments of what is happening in Syria, but every time at critical moments, relying on the achieved high level of bilateral relations, we have so far been able to find common ground on the disputed issues that have arisen, and come to acceptable solutions."

Putin prevailed over Erdogan on Thursday, short of resolving war that continues endlessly with no prospect for near-term resolution.

Shortly before midnight Thursday,  clashes continued between government forces and US/Turkish supported jihadists in southern Idlib — a sign of more of the same to come.

Ceasefire is more illusion than reality. It's just a matter of days or perhaps hours before jihadists breach it like numerous times before when cessation of conflict in the country was declared.

Diplomacy hasn't worked for eight years. The Thursday Russian/Turkish agreement will likely fail like all previous ceasefire and other conflict resolution efforts.

Smashing Western, Turkish, Israeli, Saudi backed jihadists is the only viable option.

Diplomacy in Syria can only work when they're too badly beaten to continue fighting.

Even then, US wars continue endlessly even when lost, Afghanistan Exhibit A.

There's no end of conflict there or in all other US post-9/11 war theaters.

Perpetual war is longstanding US policy, its strategy for advancing its imperium.

Peace and stability defeat it, why the vast majority in Washington reject turning swords into plowshares — not in any active US war theaters.
