Media War on Sovereign Syria

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

When the US preemptively attacks nations threatening no one, establishment media reports read like Pentagon and CIA press releases.

State-approved pro-imperial propaganda alone is featured, truth-telling banned, the public willfully lied to — in service to powerful interests against peace and stability.

In mid-March, US aggression in Syria will continue in its 10th year with no resolution in prospect as long as Pentagon, other NATO, and Turkish troops illegally occupy the country's territory — along with arming and otherwise supporting jihadists used as proxy troops.

The pro-war/anti-peace NYT is a virtual extension of Washington's imperial project.

On Monday, it published wire service propaganda reports on ongoing conflict in Syria.

A Reuters report in its latest edition reinvented US aggression as a "nine-year insurgency," falsely blaming Russian and government forces for "uproot(ing) thousands of Syrians" displaced from fighting, along with "le(aving) dozens of towns and villages in ruins."

The US, its imperial partners, and proxy jihadists bear full responsibility for years of mass slaughter and displacement, vast destruction, and appalling human misery.

Government and allied forces on the ground, greatly aided by Russian airpower, are winning the battle to liberate Syria from the scourge initiated and continued by US-led aggression.

Syria belongs exclusively to Syrians. A military spokesman said its armed forces will continue  their "sacred and noble task to rid what remains of terrorist organizations wherever on Syria's geography they are found."

An AP News report published by the Times said government troops are "consolidating control over Aleppo province, pledging to press ahead with a military campaign to achieve complete victory 'sooner or later.' "

AP quoted UN humanitarian relief coordinator Mark Lowcock's failure to lay blame where it belongs for mass displacement and human suffering in northern Syria.

Calling ongoing fighting "indiscriminate" and urging "ceasefire," he ignored US/Turkish support for thousands of jihadists in Idlib and Aleppo provinces, holding Syrian civilians hostage as human shields.

Heroic efforts by Syrian and Russian forces to liberate these areas warrant high praise, not criticism.

"(T)he biggest humanitarian horror story of the 21st century" Lowcock claimed has nothing to do with liberating efforts by Syrian and allied forces — everything to do with US-led aggression in multiple new millennium war theaters, responsible for millions of casualties and vast destruction.

Lowcock ignored what he should have highlighted, laying blame where it belongs.

The Wall Street Journal falsely blamed Damascus for "millions of refugees caught in chaos."

Like other establishment media, the Journal calls US aggression "civil war," cutthroat killer jihadists supported by the US and its imperial partners "rebels" or "opposition forces," Syria's liberating struggle "heavy-handed…"

The Journal cited a Turkish analyst's Big Lie, falsely claiming the Erdogan regime is combatting al-Nusra terrorists — their fighters heavily armed and otherwise supported by Ankara and the US.

Al Jazeera features regular anti-Syria propaganda reports, currently on ongoing conflict in Idlib and Aleppo provinces.

It falsely blamed government and Russian forces for ceasefire breaches and displacing thousands of Syrians from these areas.

Conditions in Syria and other US war theaters have been dire throughout most of the years since US aggression began.

The only solution is eliminating jihadists they support and freeing occupied countries from US and allied forces.

Nothing else is acceptable. Anti-war activists support Syrians, Afghans, Iraqis, Yemenis, Libyans, and people in other countries suffering from the horrors of US-led aggression.
