The NYT Lying Machine on Russia in Syria

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The Times is a machine for the manufacture of state-approved managed news misinformation, disinformation, and bald-faced Big Lies.

On issues relating to war and peace, it's a notorious tool for the imperial state, its reports reading like Pentagon and CIA press releases — its credibility long ago lost, the broadsheet beyond redemption.

Its latest anti-Syria, anti-Russia, anti-peace, pro-endless US war on the Syrian Arab Republic falsely accused "Russian forces (of) engaging with US troops (sic)."

Claiming they're "guarding" Syrian oil producing areas and combatting "ISIS remnants" in the country turned truth on its head.

Most people by now should know that the US created and supports ISIS, the same true about likeminded jihadists groups.

In northern Syrian territory illegally occupied by Pentagon troops, the Trump regime is stealing Syrian oil, not "guarding" what belongs to the Syrian Arab Republic and its people, not to a hostile foreign power bent on destroying and controlling the country.

The Times: "Russia is intensifying a pressure campaign on US military forces in northeastern Syria following the American withdrawal from much of that area ahead of a Turkish cross-border offensive last fall (sic)," adding:

"Russian military personnel have increasingly had run-ins with US troops on highways in the region, breaking agreements between the two countries to steer clear of each other (sic)."

"Russian helicopters are flying closer to American troops. And on Wednesday, a US-led convoy returned fire after it came under attack near a checkpoint manned by forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, who are backed by Russia (sic)."

Fact: Russia is involved in Syria at the behest of its legitimate government.

Fact: The US is a hostile/illegal aggressor and foreign occupier.

Fact: Russia is aiding Syrian forces combat the scourge of terrorists supported by the US and its imperial allies.

Fact: Syria belongs to Syrians, free from hostile foreign occupiers and jihadists they support.

Throughout nine years of war, the Times and other establishment reinvented the history of what's gone on — supporting US-led aggression, opposing sovereign Syria and the rule of law, ignoring the rights and welfare of its long-suffering people, victimized by the Obama and Trump regimes.

On Friday, AMN News reported on a confrontation between hostile US forces and defenseless Syrian civilians.

Occurring in a village near the town of Qamishli, US troops killed a Syrian youth in cold blood.

Village resident Othman Abu Asher explained what happened as follows:

"Four American vehicles entered our village and started provoking the residents, so the residents of Khirbet Amo village confronted them with stones."

"Children and women joined too…The martyr Faisal Khaled Mohammad confronted them with stones, and one American soldier shot him."

The murdered youth's uncle said "(w)e reject the American occupation wherever it exists in Syria. We, in the village of Khirbet Amo, absolutely reject the presence of any occupier in Syria."

A Pentagon spokesman lied about what happened, falsely claiming US troops were fired on, "return(ing) fire…in self-defense" — a bald-faced Big Lie.

The Times supported Pentagon disinformation, falsely claiming US troops were attacked. Nothing of the kind occurred other than harmless stone-throwing.

The Pentagon admitted that one soldier had a minor "scratch while operating equipment. The soldier is back at work."

The Times quoted a US colonel's Big Lie, falsely claiming Pentagon troops "came under small arms fire from unknown individuals (sic). In defense (sic), they returned fire."

Reporting on the incident, Tass said the arrival of Russian forces in the village "prevent(ed) further escalation of the" incident.

Russia controls Idlib airspace, giving Moscow a big advantage over hostile occupying forces and jihadists they support.

Conflict goes on endlessly because bipartisan hardliners in Washington reject resolution.
