Politicized House Vote to Repeal the AUMF

by Stephen Lendman

Passed near-unanimously by House and Senate members on 9/14/01, one congressional profile in courage alone opposing the measure, signed into law by Bush one week after 9/11 — the unconstitutional legislation was a blanket declaration of war on humanity at home and abroad based on Big Lies and deception.

It granted the executive authority to use all "necessary and appropriate force" against anyone his regime accused of "plann(ing), authoriz(ing), committ(ing), or aid(ing)" the 9/11 attacks, or who harbored persons or groups involved.

Fact: 9/11 was the mother of all state-sponsored false flags, wrongfully blamed on "crazed Arabs" and Osama bin Laden who was dying in a Pakistan hospital at the time and had nothing to do with what happened. No credible evidence suggests it.

US dark forces were responsible, their Israeli counterparts perhaps involved.

Big Lies take on a life of their own because establishment media report them as facts — serving as press agents for powerful interests against peace, stability, the rule of law, and the public welfare, discarded to serve their interests.

The official 9/11 story remains the Biggest Big Lie of our time.

It opened the gates of hell for endless US wars of aggression against nonbelligerent states threatening no one — responsible for countless millions of casualties, vast destruction, and human misery on an appalling scale.

The most important event of our time also transformed the US and other Western societies into police states from legislation enacted into law in its aftermath — despite no foreign or internal threats at the time or today.

They were invented to justify what's unjustifiable.

What 9/11 unleashed continues to this day worldwide — supported by both right wings of the US war party, in lockstep against invented enemies to feed the nation's military, industrial, security, media complex.

Under international law that's binding constitutional law, only Security Council members are empowered to declare war by one nation on others — permitted only in self-defense, never preemptively, how the US and its imperial partners operate.

That's why the AUMF was and remains unconstitutional. All US post-WW II wars were and remain illegal.

Undemocratic Dems are as pro-war as Republicans. Obama boasted about terror-bombing 7 countries in 8 years — none threatening US security or neighboring states.

Notably since enactment of the AUMF in September 2001, over 18 years ago, Dems supported all US wars of aggression.

Yet on Thursday, majority House Dems (supported by 11 Republicans) voted to repeal the AUMF by a 236 - 166 margin.

Coinciding with Trump's impeachment trial on bogus charges, not legitimate ones Dems won't touch because they share guilt, proceedings going nowhere, Thursday's vote against the AUMF was too little, too late.

It was disingenuous and politicized by pro-war Dems. Even if majority Senate members support the measure, a Trump veto will likely kill it, a two-thirds congressional super-majority needed to override him.

If Congress and the executive supported peace over endless wars of aggression, none would have been waged post-WW II.

Thursday's House vote was anti-Trump posturing, Dems knowing the AUMF will remain in place, US wars continuing in multiple theaters they support.

House members also passed legislation to block funding for war on Iran without congressional approval.

Passage of both measures was politicized. US war by other means on Iran and numerous other countries has been ongoing for years — both wings of the US war party supporting what's in flagrant breach of international and constitutional law.

Endless US war on humanity at home and abroad continues unchallenged by the world community.

Politicized congressional legislation passed Thursday changed nothing.

The US war machine won't miss a beat — bipartisan support and establishment media cheerleading it.
