US Designated Puppet Guaido in Venezuela Falling Out of Favor

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

According to Bloomberg News, the Trump regime is cooking up "more muscular" ways to try toppling democratically elected and reelected Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

DJT and hardliners surrounding him "los(t) confidence" in designated puppet/usurper in waiting Guaido.

On Thursday, evangelical Christian fascist Mike Pence and other Trump regime officials met to plot new ways to transform Venezuelan's social democracy into another exploited US client state.

US envoy for regime change in Venezuela Elliott Abrams turned truth on its head, claiming Guaido "remains the single most popular official in Venezuela (sic)," adding:

The US "remains fully supportive of him and of the National Assembly in their effort to restore Venezuela to democracy (sic)" — by replacing it with US controlled fascist tyranny, masquerading as democracy, he failed to explain.

A days earlier article cited a new Meganalisis poll that showed Guaido's support at less less than 10%. Only 11% "trust and support" the opposition-controlled National Assembly.

Numbers turning out to hear Guaido's public addresses are a small fraction of earlier crowds. Venezuela Analysis reported that the "right-wing opposition (he heads is) beset by internecine strife (over) corruption allegations (against) senior anti-government figures."

Opposition First Justice party's Jose Brito was quoted, saying Guaido "does not have moral, ethical or judicial capabilities, because he's corrupt," adding:

"There is a rebellion inside the National Assembly against Guaido, because he's corrupt."

Bolivarian National Constituent Assembly President Diosdado Cabello denounced the opposition's "lack of morals and ethics," adding:

"Nobody should be surprised that they are trading accusations of corruption, of taking bribes. They even stole humanitarian aid."

On Sunday, the Wall Street Journal bemoaned that "once thought ripe for ouster (Maduro) looks firmly in place," adding:

He "appears in firm control. The opposition is grappling with a corruption scandal and its efforts to rekindle street protests have fallen flat."

"Venezuela's crisis-racked economy is showing subtle signs of improvement."

"And governments across Latin America are facing their own political turmoil, distracting from once-burgeoning international efforts to remove" Maduro.

The Journal quoted former US National Security Council official Fernando Cutz, saying "I am less optimistic right now than I have been in the last three years. I don't see any reason to forecast that (Maduro will be ousted in) 2020…"

The difference between Venezuela and Bolivia is that Bolivarian military officials rejected US bribes offered them to defect that their counterparts in La Paz accepted.

That's why legitimate President Maduro remains in office, why Evo Morales was forced out.

According to an unnamed Trump regime official cited by Bloomberg, plans are to stiffen pressure on nations doing business with Venezuela, including Cuba, along with trying to get Russia to go along with supporting Maduro's ouster.

On Saturday, Russian upper house Federation Council official Frants Klintsevich said the following:

"Russia cooperates with the duly elected president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, following through on our commitments with the country. Anything else does not concern us. Venezuela sets its own development path, and foreign policy priorities," adding:

Moscow rejects interference in the affairs of other countries. It's "ready to cooperate on settling a variety of issues, but not on this one. For us it is a political taboo…"

Last week, Venezuelan envoy to Russia Carlos Rafeal Faria Tortosa said "(o)ur people are facing a (hostile US) blockade and sanctions," adding:

"But nevertheless, we can see the situation improve. We do understand that it doesn't mean the United States will abandon its plans to overthrow President Maduro."

"This is why - like he always says - we need to stay alert and stand side by side with our armed forces that protect our constitution, our president, our land, and our people."

Cuba successfully withstood hostile US actions for 60 years, Iran for 40 years, and Venezuela for 21 years.

These countries are a significant counterforce against US imperial aims, along with Russia, China, and other nations – preserving and protecting their sovereign independence from US rage to eliminate it.

Despite spending countless trillions of dollar on militarism, warmaking, corporate welfare, and police state toughness on dissent, the US is a nation in decline.

When it goes like all other previous empires, humanity will be free at last from its hegemonic rage.
