Media Opposition to Peace and Stability

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Establishment media never met a US war of aggression they didn't wholeheartedly endorse and cheerlead.

They never met efforts to restore peace, stability, and end occupation of nations raped and destroyed by US and allied forces they didn't abhor.

Notably post-9/11, they want no pullback from countries victimized by US aggression, no accountability for the highest of high crimes.

Instead they support unlawful efforts to replace all sovereign independent governments with US-controlled puppet regimes.

US forces continue to illegally occupy northern and southern Syrian territory, along with its oil-producing areas. Partial withdrawal alone occurred in the country's north.

US-led NATO and Israeli warplanes intend to continue terror-bombing the country at their discretion, including by Pentagon warplanes from an illegally established airbase in northern Syria not abandoned.

Trump's so-called special advisor for Syria James Jeffrey said "(w)e do contemplate…maintaining one of our two airfields there."

In response to Trump's partial withdrawal from Syria, the NYT raged against it enabling Russia "to expand its influence in the Middle East" — ignoring its peace and stability agenda, polar opposite endless US wars of aggression the self-styled news paper of record supports.

The Times reinvented history, pretending war began in 2011 "with peaceful protests," ignoring Obama regime orchestrated aggression, using ISIS and other jihadists as proxy troops, supported by Pentagon-led terror-bombing since 2014.

The Times also perpetuates the myth of civil war, along with pretending US forces are combatting ISIS, ignoring the scourge it created and supports, along with likeminded terrorist groups.

The neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post is also outraged over the partial US pullout from Syria, never explaining that occupation of Syrian territory is a flagrant UN Charter violation.

It pretends the Orwellian-named Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) "were critical to the defeat of the Islamic State's caliphate," ignoring their terrorist-infested ranks, supporting the ISIS scourge, not combatting it.

Like the NYT, it's furious over the prospect of increased Russian Middle East influence. It quoted Trump's special representative for Syria James Jeffrey's Big Lie — falsely claiming US forces are in the country to combat ISIS, adding:

"(I)f you remove those troops before that mission is complete, then you have a problem. And we do have a problem right now."

The "problem" is Russia's peace and stability agenda gaining at the expense of endless US wars of aggression for regional dominance.

Jeffery compounded his Big Lie, claiming Turkey's invasion "undercut our efforts against ISIS and brought in the Russians and Syrian…forces in a way that's really tragic for everyone involved."

What's "tragic," devastating and unlawful are endless US wars of aggression, smashing nations to control them, advancing Washington's imperium at the expense of millions of lives lost, millions more ruined by war, vast destruction, and unaccountability for the highest of high crimes.

The Wall Street Journal expressed concern over increased Kremlin Middle East influence, including with Turkey, Egypt, Israel, the Saudis, African states, and mainly China — at the expense of US imperial aims, stressing:

"Putin has shown himself adept at managing difficult and volatile relationships to his own advantage…strengthen(ing) his partnership with" leaders of other nations.

Unmentioned was that Russia can be trusted, its word its bond, polar opposite how the US operates, an unreliable ally at best, a mortal enemy to nations not subservient to its will.

Without supportive establishment media propaganda, US imperial wars wouldn't get out of the starting gate, its mass deception for waging without a leg to stand on — unable to enlist popular support or prevent public outrage.
