Nixonian Drive to Topple Trump for the Wrong Reasons

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

A personal note: My readers know I'm a sharp Trump critic — for legitimate reasons, not phony ones. I also support democratic values and the rule of law, polar opposite how the US is run by both right wings of its war party.

One more thing. Removing Trump elevates warmongering neocon, Christian fascist, evangelical extremist, Islamophobe Pence to power. Trump haters may yearn for him back in the oval office if things turn out this way.

Anti-democratic dark forces cooked up phony reasons to force Nixon from office.

Explained in an earlier article, it was all about opposition to his social, environmental and geopolitical agenda – world's apart from how Republicans and undemocratic Dems operate today.

He opened China, recognized Taiwan as part of its territory, and wanted war in Vietnam ended — after earlier escalating it covertly.

His agenda threatened entrenched military/industrial/security and other interests, why he was marked for removal — one of the most shameful political chapters in US history.

It's repeating today against Trump for the wrong reasons, ignoring plenty of right ones dark forces against him won't touch.

Notably they include endless wars of aggression, serving privileged interests exclusively, betraying the public trust, and enforcing police state harshness against resisters.

The vast majority of Republicans, undemocratic Dems, and US intelligence community officials support the above wrongdoing. So do major media — complicit in a conspiracy against peace, equity, justice, and the rule of law.

Trump is targeted for removal for arguing against trillions of dollars spent for militarism and warmaking — despite doing nothing to stop this abuse of power.

Dems, complicit intelligence community members, and establishment media also want him ousted for winning an election he was supposed to lose.

The impeachment process against him is a scam, further proof of Washington's deeply corrupted political system too debauched to fix — the NYT, Hillary's campaign press agent, the leading media attack dog, wanting revenge for her loss.

The self-styled newspaper of record enlisted former US special operations command head admiral William McRaven to write a hatchet-job anti-Trump op-ed no responsible editors would touch.

Ignoring US dirty wars and atrocities committed waging them, including by forces he commanded, he falsely claimed "our republic is under attack from the president," adding:

"(O)ur future may be in peril…(W)herever there (is) oppression, tyranny or despotism, America (is) there (sic)…because freedom matter(s)…because the world need(s) us (sic), and if not us, then who (sic)?"

The above rubbish is how Hollywood and PR spinmeisters falsely portray things, reality at home and abroad polar opposite their deception and McRaven's — his former command part of the problem.

Former special forces Col. James Steele was a US Central America dirty war veteran. In Iraq during Bush/Cheney's aggression, he helped establish detention/torture facilities, innocent victims subjected to monstrous brutality, including by US special forces.

In his and likeminded commands, orders were to "kill all military-age males" on sight, he said — breaching  international, constitutional, US statute, and military laws.

In all US war theaters since the 18th century, unaccountable high crimes of war and against humanity were committed by US forces against combatants and defenseless civilians in harm's way.

That's what "the nation's principles" are all about, polar opposite how McRaven falsely portrayed them.

He turned truth on its head, claiming "we try to be the good guys (sic)…(O)ur ideals (include) universal freedom and equality…justice (sic), (and) protect(ing) the less fortunate (sic)."

Raping and destroying one country after another, massacring millions, committing unspeakable atrocities are polar opposite the false narrative above.

Asking "what will happen to the Kurds, the Iraqis, the Afghans, the Syrians," (etc.) (if) abandoned by" the US, they'd be free from its tyrannical boot, he failed to explain.

McRaven accused Trump of "weakness" for redeploying about 1,000 US forces from northern Syria to Iraq — failing to explain they're in both countries and many others illegally, and/or by exerting enormous pressure and threats on nations to permit their presence, a hostile force to peace and stability wherever sent.

McRaven is a warrior eager for battles, hostile to peace and stability like all militarists. He defied reality, claiming aggressor USA "champions…good and the right (sic)," adding:

"(I)f no one follows us, where will the world end up (sic)?" On track for peace that's unattainable as long as the US wages endless wars of aggression and by other means against nations it doesn't control, he failed to explain.

So-called "virtues that have sustained this nation for the past 243 years" have caused appalling human suffering to countless millions of victims at home and abroad — far exceeding the worst of earlier empires.

Saying "it is time for a new person in the Oval Office…the sooner, the better. The fate of our republic depends upon it" is a coup d'etat call to remove Trump from office for the wrong reasons, ignoring the right ones — a flagrant international and constitutional law breach.

By featuring McRaven's rubbish, the Times is complicit in his unlawful call for regime change.
