WSJ Gives Turkish Despot Erdogan a Platform to Lie and Deceive

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Turkey is a NATO member, its military the alliance's second largest in force strength to the US.

Throughout premeditated Obama regime aggression in Syria, escalated by Trump, Ankara partnered with US high crimes of war and against humanity, including support for ISIS and likeminded jihadists while pretending otherwise.

Bilateral relations are uneasy over Erdogan's growing ties to Russia, including purchase of its state-of-the-art S-400 air defense missiles over inferior/more expensive US ones.

Moscow is a reliable ally, the US polar opposite, using other nations, groups and individuals for its own self-interest, discarding and betraying them time and again for other priorities — why its ruling authorities can never be trusted, diplomatic outreach to them a waste of time.

In a WSJ op-ed ghost written for him, Erdogan lied claiming "Turkey is stepping up where others fail to act (sic)."

Naked aggression is the highest of high crimes, not "stepping up." His commentary includes a litany of Big Lies and deception.

Erdogan: "Syria's refugee flows, violence and instability have pushed us to the limit of our tolerance."

Fact: Turkey is complicit with US aggression in Syria, its endless violence, instability, responsible for millions of internally and externally displaced people.

Erdogan: "Since the Syrian civil war (sic) began in 2011, no country has felt the pain of the ensuing humanitarian crisis more severely than Turkey (sic). We took in 3.6 million Syrian refugees…"

Fact: There's nothing remotely "civil" about US aggression against sovereign Syrian independence — nor Turkish complicity with what's going on.

Fact: Erdogan, his family members, and cronies profited greatly from involvement with ISIS in transporting, refining and selling stolen Syrian oil.

Fact: A captured ISIS fighter said "the reason why it was so easy for him to cross the Turkish border and join IS was, in part, due to the fact that Turkey also benefitted" – profiting from stolen Syrian oil.

Throughout years of war, ISIS and other jihadists moved freely back and forth cross-border between safe haven in Turkey and Syria, Erdogan partnering with US aggression.

Washington's anger over his current aggression is because he threatens to seize parts of northern Syria the US wants control over, notably its oil-producing areas — along with combatting Kurdish fighters, former US proxies against Damascus.

Erdogan was bribed with billions of EU dollars to assume control over Syrian refugees Brussels wants kept out of Europe.

He, his family and cronies no doubt profited greatly from the arrangement, exploiting Syrian refugees, not treating them humanely according to international law.

His so-called "Operation Peace Spring" has nothing to do with peace, nothing to do with protecting Turkey from cross-border attacks, nothing to do with combatting ISIS and likeminded terrorist groups Ankara supports, nothing to do with establishing a "safe zone" for Syrian refugees, nothing to do with addressing a humanitarian crisis.

It has everything to do with wanting northern Syrian territory annexed, especially its oil-producing areas. His claims otherwise reflect mass deception, fooling no one aware of what's going on.

The so-called "Syrian National Army" allied with Turkish aggression is infested with anti-Damascus cutthroat killer jihadists.

Erdogan: "Operation Peace Spring represents a second chance to help Turkey end proxy wars in Syria and restore peace and stability to the region (sic)."

His aggression is unrelated to his lofty claims, everything to do with his imperial aims.
