NYT Reinvented History

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The Times glorifies US wars of aggression — supporting what demands universal condemnation, pretending they're liberating struggles in the name of peace.

Unexplained is that they're all about wanting sovereign independent nations transformed into US vassal states — might unjustifiably justifying right, what the scourge of imperialism is all about.

Reinventing history is longstanding NYT policy, especially when the US wages war against nonbelligerent states threatening no one — what's been ongoing in Syria since early 2011 with no end of US aggression in prospect.

The Times supports permanent/illegal US occupation of Syrian territory, indignant about withdrawing its forces from any part of the country they control.

In its latest edition, it falsely claimed withdrawal from northern areas "could allow a resurgence of the Islamic State."

The self-styled newspaper of record never explains that ISIS and likeminded terrorist groups are US creations, the Pentagon and CIA using them as imperial foot soldiers in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere.

US troops withdrawn from northern Syria are being redeployed elsewhere in the country, cross-border in Iraq, perhaps some in Jordan — instead of bringing them home.

Neocon undemocratic Dem Rep. Eliot Engel called for House legislation, condemning Trump for wanting to partially step back from the brink of US aggression in Syria.

Sunday on Meet the Press, he called the move "disgusting," supporting endless US wars of aggression, abhorring peace and stability in Syria and elsewhere — the Times on board for US rage to dominate other countries.

It's indignant over the prospect that Damascus may regain control over areas occupied by US troops, aided by Russian airpower.

It falsely claimed Pentagon forces in southern Syria are "a deterrent to Iranian movements in that region" that don't exist.

At the request of Damascus, Iranian military advisers are aiding its ruling authorities combat US-supported terrorists.

The Times also falsely claimed (illegal) US occupation of southern Syria "is viewed as critical to protect Jordan and…Israel" from Iran — a bald-faced Big Lie, these and other nations facing no threat from Tehran.

Note: Engel proposed kicking Turkey out of NATO for being "in cahoots with the Russians."

Since the aborted summer 2016 coup attempt to oust Erdogan with US dirty hands all over it, he and loyalists around him reportedly could leave the alliance while solidifying ties to Russia — if hostile US actions against Turkey continue.

In a same-day propaganda piece, the Times turned reality on its head, claiming Trump's Syria policy is "giv(ing) Assad and his Iranian and Russian backers a free hand…jeopardiz(ing) hard-won gains against the Islamic State — and potentially open(ing) the door for its return."

The Times never met a US war of aggression it didn't wholeheartedly endorse and cheerlead.

It's furious over the prospect of restoring peace and stability to any nations the US attacked aggressively.

Maybe undemocratic Dems will focus on wanting Trump impeached for taking a baby step back from illegal US involvement in Syria, too minor to matter — instead of ordering all Pentagon troops and CIA operatives out of the country and all other US war theaters.
