EU to Withdraw from the Iran Nuclear Deal?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

After the Trump regime illegally withdrew from the JCPOA in May 2018, unanimously adopted by Security Council members, making it binding international and US constitutional law, Europe followed suit by breaching its mandated obligations.

Time and again, Britain, France, Germany, and other EU nations operate as virtual US colonies, their sovereignty subordinated to a higher authority in Washington.

Western abandonment of the JCPOA effectively killed the landmark agreement, heightening Middle East tensions, increasing the risk of possible US belligerent confrontation with Iran — a nation at peace with its neighbors, threatening none.

Following phony claims of Iranian involvement in the September 14 strikes on key Saudi oil facilities, Yemeni Houthis explained they carried out, Britain, France, and Germany falsely accused Iran of "responsibility for this attack" — despite no evidence suggesting it.

Unacceptably blaming Iran for what it had nothing to do with, along with breaching their JCPOA obligations, showed their support for the agreement was dubious all along, dependent on US policy toward Tehran, following its lead on geopolitical issues, notably allying with its wars of aggression, partnering with its highest of high crimes.

According to the London Guardian, the EU "privately warned Iran that it will be forced to start withdrawing from the nuclear deal in November if Tehran goes ahead with its threat to take new steps away from the deal."

Unlike EU countries, in breach of their obligations, steps Iran took and intend to take as long as EU noncompliance persists, fully comply with JCPOA provisions, Tehran acting legally, polar opposite actions by Britain, France, Germany and Brussels.

The Guardian: "The EU told Iran that it would put the issue of Iranian non-compliance (sic) into the agreement's formal dispute mechanism if the next Iranian move away from the deal is significant."

On November 7, Iran will legally pull back from more voluntary commitments, permitted under JCPOA Articles 26 and 36, if EU countries remain in flagrant breach of their obligations.

Along with the Trump regime, they bear full responsibility for dooming the agreement - not Iran!

It's the world's most heavily monitored country despite its legitimate nuclear program with no military component, no belligerent threats against anyone.

Claims otherwise have been unacceptable anti-Iran propaganda for decades, the nation targeted for regime change by the US, seeking another imperial trophy, including control over Iranian oil and gas resources, some of the world's largest.

On Thursday, President Rouhani criticized EU noncompliance with its JCPOA obligations since the Trump regime's pullout, stressing "Europe proposed many financial systems, but has proven to be incapable or unwilling to act," adding:

"It is not possible that Europe stays in the JCPOA, but only Iran pays the price. We will continue to negotiate with the JCPOA parties. If they do not fulfill their obligations, the reduction of the commitments will continue."

"(W)hen we approached the Europeans (for a solution), they said they had to get America's approval" — showing their fealty to a higher power, how all colonies operate.

Rouhani noted that 15 foreign leaders he spoke to on the UN General Assembly's sidelines expressed opposition to the Trump regime's JCPOA pullout.

Yet most world community nations observe unlawful US sanctions on the country, making them complicit in its criminality.

Rouhani also explained that when he pressed European leaders on falsely blaming Iran for strikes on Saudi oil fields, they backed off from their accusation, saying they didn't know who launched the attack.
