Russiagate and Ukrainegate Scams — Further Proof of America's Deplorable State

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Discredited as a scam doesn't matter. Russiagate remains the Big Lie that won't die — Ukrainegate following the same pattern as long as Trump remains president.

The NYT is in the vanguard of wanting Trump discredited and forced from office for triumphing over media darling Hillary — not for wars of aggression, corporate favoritism, one-sided support for Israel over Palestinian rights, and other unacceptable actions similar to policies of his predecessors.

Supporting the Ukrainegate scam, its editors headlined: "Why the Trump Impeachment Inquiry Is the Only Option," saying:

"The peaceful transfer of presidential power through free and fair elections is the crowning glory of American democracy. It concretizes the people's will, conferring legitimacy, assuring stability."

Fact: Democracy in America is fake, not real. Its ruling authorities serve privileged interests exclusively, ordinary people with no say over how they're governed.

Fact: What the self-styled newspaper of record knows and should explain, it conceals, pretending the nation's fantasy democracy is real - what never existed from inception.

The Times: Trump's "policymaking…assault(s) the vital institutions of governance…(P)ublic-spirited people…wondered at what point the checks and balances of American governance might have to be restored by means of the most radical check of all. That point has now been reached."

Fact: All of the above is mean-spirited Trump bashing without substance.

Most important is no mention of his most grievous crimes of state, his imperial wars the Times and other establishment media cheerlead.

The same goes for his support for Wall Street, the military, industrial, security complex, and other predatory corporate interests. Establishment media are hostile to political figures for beneficial social change.

Trump's disdain for working Americans went unmentioned, nothing said about the deplorable state of the economy for main street, ordinary people enduring depression conditions for over a decade, real unemployment at near-1930s levels.

Underemployment is a national catastrophe. Most employed Americans have rotten jobs, earning poverty wages, a few missed paychecks from homelessness, hunger and despair in the world's richest country — the United States of I don't care about its "huddled masses yearning to breathe free."

Ukrainegate is a much ado about nothing scam. Joe Biden should have been investigated long ago.

Paul Craig Roberts explained that as Obama's vice president, he forced Ukraine's Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin from office over an investigation of his son Hunter's dubious dealings as a board member of a Ukrainian company.

Shokin issued a statement, explaining that Biden "directly manipulated the political leadership of Ukraine on false pretexts…"

Roberts: He "threatened (then Ukrainian president Poroshenko), releasing one billion dollars to Poroshenko when he did Biden's will and stopped the investigation of a firm in which Biden's son had substantial interests."

The NYT and other establishment media buried the story, Biden's criminality concealed.

Shokin: "Poroshenko asked me to resign due to pressure from the (Obama regime), in particular Joe Biden."

The vast majority of Americans know nothing about this sordid episode because establishment suppress criminality committed by their favorites — Trump targeted for winning an election he was supposed to lose.

The US Justice Department should investigate Biden, accountability long overdue for decades of wrongdoing.

Much like it served as Hillary's press agent during the 2016 campaign, the Times fawns over Biden, earlier calling him "a levelheaded leader for a country wracked by political conflict, a rationale he believes could attract a broad cross-section of voters who want to move on from Mr. Trump," adding:

"Mr. Biden is seen by many Democrats as a trustee of former President Barack Obama's legacy (sic), perhaps capable of restoring the consensus-seeking liberalism (sic) of Mr. Obama's administration."

There's nothing "liberal" about terror-bombing seven countries, toppling democratic governments, supporting tinpot despots, forced-feeding neoliberal harshness on America's most disadvantaged in deference to Wall Street and other corporate interests, being the nation's Deporter-in-Chief, institutionalizing indefinite detentions by EO, his secret kill list, appointing himself judge, jury and executioner, breaching most positive campaign promises made, disgracing the office he held for 8 years.

Biden partnered in all of the above, a war criminal, responsible for wrongdoing multiple times over, belonging in prison, not high office, Obama with him.

The Times lied calling Ukrainegate "the quintessence of an impeachable offense."

It doesn't remotely rise to the level of "high crimes and misdemeanors" required to remove a public figure from office.

It's common practice in Washington, happening time and again by countless US war party members throughout the nation's history.

Biden was caught red-handed, engaging in criminal conduct by threatening Ukraine's president, his denial falling flat.

The Times lied, falsely claiming "no evidence of (Biden's) wrongdoing" was found. Ukraine's dismissed prosecutor general exposed him, his accusations buried by the broadsheet.

The Times: "(T)he law is clear that impeachment does not require a crime."

The Constitution's Article II, Section 4 is clear and unequivocal, stating:

"The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."

The Times and other establishment media are guilty of pseudo-journalism, propaganda over news fit to print, serving powerful interests at the expense of peace, equity and justice they deplore.

As for Biden, his decades in public office exposed the true measure of the man — opposing virtually everything just societies hold dear.

He backs and continues backing all US wars of aggression, voted for the USA Patriot Act and other post-9/11 police state laws, opposed Net Neutrality in deference to communications industry donors.

He supports the devastating war on drugs, the US gulag prison system operating globally, imprisoning Blacks, Latinos, and other disadvantaged Americans en masse.

Undemocratic Dems and establishment media consider him safe, a longtime corporate America favorite, one-sidedly supporting wealth and power, disdaining ordinary people everywhere.

"Lunch bucket Joe" is a long ago debunked ruse. There's not a dime's worth of difference between him and Trump except syle — an old-time establishment pol v. a a brazen billionaire businessman, now head of his party and president.

No matter which candidates represent both wings of the US war party in November 2020, dirty business as usual will triumph like always before.
