Dr. James Lyons-Weiler is a biomedical research scientist with expertise in genetics, disease and treatment biomarkers. As a faculty member in the Departments of Pathology and Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Lyons-Weiler taught full courses and as a full faculty member helped Dr. Ronald Herberman and faculty in the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute procure over $27 ½ million in collaborative grant funding surrounding biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis.  He founded the Commonwealth's first Bioinformatics Analysis and designed and directed the analysis of over 100 basic, translational and clinical research studies.  He has authored three books on very important topics such as Ebola: An Evolving Story, Cures vs. Profits and The Environmental and Genetic Causes of Autism.  The founder of the Ebola Rapid Assay Development Consortium, he is now the CEO and Director of the Pittsburgh-area Institute for Pure and Applied Knowledge, a pure public charity focused on reducing human pain and suffering. IPAK has just launched the new journal "Science, Public Health Policy & the Law, which publishes articles focused on the accuracy with which science is translated into public health policy.
