The NYT v. Trump Update

Throughout the 2016 presidential campaign, the Times was a virtual press agent for Hillary.

Its editors endorsed the most ruthlessly dangerous presidential aspirant in US history.

She openly favors use of cluster bombs, toxic agents, and nuclear weapons in US war theaters she called deterrents that "keep the peace" she deplores. 

The Times falsely called her "one of the most broadly and deeply qualified presidential candidates in modern history" — a shocking perversion of truth about a pro-war, pro-business, anti-peace, equity and justice menace.

Times anti-Trump fury is all about his November 2016 triumph, an election he was supposed to lose, not win.

There's virtually nothing positive about the 45th US president, DJT waging war on humanity at home and abroad.

Instead of slamming him for the right reasons, the Times largely focuses on wrong ones.

Notably it pushed Big Lies about (nonexistent Trump team) collusion with Moscow, DJT serving as a Putin puppet, and the hoax about Russian interference in US elections — a longstanding CIA/NED specialty worldwide, not how the Russian Federation operates.

The Mueller Russiagate witch-hunt report destroyed the myth about Trump team collusion with Russia and nonexistent DJT obstruction of justice — the Times and other establishment media with egg on their face for pushing the Big Lie ad nauseam. 

Humiliated by the Russiagate hoax, the self-styled newspaper of record in its own mind is shifting to a new anti-Trump focus — attacking him as a racist in the run-up to next year's presidential election.

In an earlier article I titled Trump: America's Racist-in-Chief, I discussed his longstanding antipathy toward people of color, notably African-Americans.

In 1973, the Justice Department sued Trump Management for discriminating against black renters he wanted excluded from properties the firm managed.

A 1978 DOJ suit followed for breaching terms of the earlier settlement. He was a prominent Birtherism proponent, falsely claiming Obama was born abroad, thus serving illegally as president.

He lied about Mexican immigrants, saying: "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists."

He's been a bigot throughout his adult life — in business and as president, proving time and again he's an embarrassment to the office he holds.

Shifting focus from Russiagate to Trump's racism by the Times ignores his most egregious high crimes of war and against humanity, along with serving monied interests exclusively at the expense of the public welfare — what the self-styled newspaper of record wholeheartedly supports.

Slate.com got hold of a recorded transcript of what was discussed by Times executive editor Dean Baquet and the broadsheet's staff last week — on its anti-Trump strategy shift.

It's further proof of its advocacy and propaganda over journalism the way it should be it long ago abandoned.

Baquet is the Times' liar-in-chief for a publication scoring truth and full disclosure on major domestic and geopolitical issues. Explaining the broadsheet's new anti-Trump strategy, he said:

The Times was "a little tiny bit flat-footed" throughout the Mueller witch hunt and after it ended.

"Our readers who want Donald Trump to go away suddenly thought, 'Holy sh.t, Bob Mueller is not going to do it."

Nor did House and Senate probes, failing to find evidence of an illegal or improper Trump team/Kremlin connection, obstruction of justice, and Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election — because none of the above occurred, Baquet failed to mention.

Striking out on the Russiagate hoax, he said "we have to regroup, and shift resources and emphasis to take on a different story" — a new anti-Trump witch hunt, a campaign to defeat him in 2020.

Apparently it'll focus on race and class by a broadsheet that notoriously supports wealth, power and privilege exclusively at the expense of ordinary people everywhere — favoring neoliberal harshness over governance serving everyone equitably.

Its new anti-Trump strategy no doubt will ignore what's most odious about him to feature, his highest of high crimes, the same ones committed by most of his predecessors, notably since the neoliberal 90s — and what the vast majority in Congress support.

The Times and other establishment media wage war on what just societies hold dear. 

The abysmal record of the self-styled newspaper of record reflects abandonment of truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth in favor of managed news misinformation and disinformation.

In earlier open letters to Times editors, getting some of the largest readership of my articles, I slammed the broadsheet for long ago abandoning real news, information and analysis the way it should be delivered to readers, for breaching journalistic ethics, for scorning public trust, accuracy and truth.

Truth-telling on major issues is unwelcome on its pages. I asked the following:

Do US wars of aggression bother you? Does human suffering matter? Is business as usual OK? Are sham elections? Is democracy for the few alone how things should be?

Do corporate interests count more than popular ones? Do wealth, power, privilege, and unchallenged dominance alone matter? What about an unconscionable growing wealth gap?

How about corporate and political lawlessness? What about a private banking cartel controlling America's money? Is looting the federal Treasury OK? What about reckless money printing to serve privileged interests and farcical elections when held?

Do growing poverty, homelessness, hunger and despair concern you? What about deepening social decay symptomatic of national decline?

How about growing millions worldwide calling America a pariah state for good reason? Waging political, economic, social, and hot wars put it in a class by itself.

Are you concerned? Is this the America you support? Dare you call it beautiful?

Instead of using its global reach to inform and enlighten readers, to support right over wrong, to denounce US mass slaughter, destruction and human misery where its forces show up, the Times is on the wrong side of issues mattering most.

It consistently fails to publish "all the news that's fit to print." Doing the right thing is its own reward.

So is journalism the way it should be. The Times mocks what it's all about, a lying machine.

The Times is to journalism the way it should be what war is to peace, what injustice is to equity, what the rule of law is to flagrant breaches – what yellow journalism is to the real thing.
