Slow-Motion Trump Regime March to War on Iran

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

So far Trump regime tactics against Iran amount to war by other means — notably by media supported illegal sanctions and a daily propaganda drumbeat, vilifying the country.

Is what's going on a softening up process for hot war, planned but not revealed? Ignore Trump's remarks, time and again saying one thing, then doing something entirely different.

He let himself be messaged into escalating war in Syria, keeping US troops in the country, sending more forces to Afghanistan instead of ending the longest US war in modern times, along with aggression against Yemen.

He's unconcerned about catastrophic conditions resulting from US wars in Yemen and elsewhere.

He supports Libyan war lord General Khalifa Haftar's aggression in the war-torn country, the nation raped and destroyed by US aims to control it — the same true about all preemptively launched US wars.

Throughout the post-WW II era, the US toppled numerous sovereign governments, assassinated legitimate leaders, removed others by coup d'etats, and reigned terror on every continent – an agenda more ruthlessly dangerous today than earlier.

US policies include virtually every conceivable form of lawlessness, the rule of law considered null and void, operating by Washington rules exclusively.

Every sovereign independent government unwilling to subordinate its rights to US interests is on its target list for regime change.

The late William Blum once said "(b)e nice to America" or face its wrath, his anti-empire reports sorely missed.

Bolton, Pompeo, and their hardline subordinates are pathologically hostile toward Iran. Establishment media repeat state-sponsored propaganda virtually daily.

The Big Lie about Iran seeking to develop nuclear weapons persists. It was debunked long ago along with falsely calling the country the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism — what applies overwhelmingly to the US and its imperial partners, not the Islamic Republic.

May and June false flags wrongfully blamed on Iran, with US fingerprints all over them, weren't convincing enough to enlist world community support for confronting the country militarily.

Things are heading ominously in this direction because of the Trump regime's rage to topple its government.

DJT saying he's willing to talk to Iran with no preconditions is subterfuge for wanting unconditional Iranian surrender to his regime's demands, returning the country to US client state status, a fascist dictatorship Washington controls, what its 1979 revolution eliminated.

The US doesn't negotiate. It demands, why talks with sovereign independent countries accomplish nothing. Rare exceptions prove the rule.

Security Council affirmation of the JCPOA nuclear deal made it binding international law. Trump illegally pulled out anyway. Europe has gone along by failing to observe its provisions, likely dooming the deal if something positive doesn't turn things around.

The same goes for possible Trump regime war on Iran, things heading ominously in this direction.

Israel, the Saudis, UAE, and Britain will likely join a US coalition of the willing against Iran if Trump intends to attack the country.

Pompeo and Bolton are seeking partners for aggression against the Iran, pressing other nations go along with what no one should support.

They're selling war based on Big Lies and deception, repeating a familiar formula used time and again earlier by the US to build coalitions for naked aggression — the supreme high crime against peace.

In Israel, Bolton turned truth on its head, saying Iran "should give up (its) pursuit of deliverable nuclear weapons (no evidence suggests it seeks, just the opposite)," adding:

"They should make that strategic step (sic). They have not done it yet (sic)." All US/Israeli accusations against Iran are bald-faced Big Lies.

Raging hawk Bolton sounded ludicrously claimed "US diplomats (sic) are surging across the Middle East seeking a path to peace," a notion Republicans and undemocratic Dems abhor.

He repeated a further litany of bald-faced Big Lies about Iran, including falsely saying "(t)here is simply no evidence that Iran has made the strategic decision to renounce nuclear weapons and open realistic discussion to demonstrate that decision (sic)."

There is simply no evidence that the US under Trump or any other president seeks world peace and stability.

No US president since Jack Kennedy pursued this objective. His transformation in office from warrior to peacemaker led to his demise, CIA assassins eliminating him.

The lesson hasn't been lost on his successors, no US president diverging from the nation's permanent war agenda since that time, especially post-9/11, opening the gates of hell to multiple endless wars of aggression — a bonanza for the US military, industrial, security, media complex.

Is Iran next on the US target list? Is war on the country inevitable?

Is it a major false flag away, something much more serious than May and June incidents, US casualties likely needed to enlist world community and public support!

Hostile remarks like Bolton falsely calling Iran "the source of belligerence and aggression" aren't persuasive enough.

On Monday, Pompeo held talks with UAE and Saudi officials in Dubai, figures needing no convincing about waging war on Iran.

He seeks support from Middle East, Asian and European countries to confront the (nonexistent Iranian) military threat.

What sells regionally doesn't go down well elsewhere. Trump's record is well-documented.

He escalated wars he inherited, withdrew from the SC-adopted the JCPOA nuclear deal, insulted Islam by illegally recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's exclusive capital, and his geopolitical team is going all-out to enlist allies for war on Iran.

That's what the scourge of imperialism is all about.

The possible mother of all US post-9/11 wars of aggression against Iran risks boiling over the already war-torn region.

If Russia aids its Iranian ally as it did in Syria to combat US-supported terrorism, WW III could follow by accident or design.

That's why it's crucial to prevent to prevent the US from attacking Iran. Minimally it would be catastrophic for the nation and its people.

At worst, a war extending well beyond the region with nuclear weapons would be ominously possible.

Having these weapons risks using them. Father of the US nuclear navy Admiral Hyman Rickover told congressional members in the 1980s that when nations go to war, they'll use all weapons in their arsenal needed to win.

If nuclear-armed America attacks Russia for aiding Iran against US aggression, Rickover's warning could come home to roost with potentially devastating consequences.
