US/Russia Discussing Deal to End Syria War?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

According to AP News, US and Russian officials discussed a 2012 roadmap involving UN-supervised elections as a step toward ending years of war — launched by the Obama regime, AP failed to explain.

War in its ninth year continues with no prospect for resolution because of US/Israeli rage for regime change, why it was launched in the first place. Call it a civil conflict is one of many Big Lies about what's going on.

According to Trump's special envoy for replacing Syrian sovereign independence with US controlled puppet rule, James Jeffrey, nothing has been achieved toward concluding a ceasefire agreement with Russia, falsely blaming Damascus for US aggression.

Years of Russian-led diplomatic efforts in Geneva, Astana, and Sochi since June 2012 failed to halt fighting because the US rejects restoration of peace and stability to the country — even with regime change as seen by endless violence in Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq and Libya.

Unanimously adopted Security Council Resolution 2254 (December 2015), called for ceasefire and diplomatic settlement of the conflict.

Three-and-a-half years later, peace remains elusive because the US didn't wage war on Syria to quit.

SC Res. 2401 (February 2018) fared no better. Unanimously adopted, it demanded "all parties cease hostilities without delay and engage immediately to ensure full and comprehensive implementation of this demand by all parties, for a durable humanitarian pause for at least 30 consecutive days throughout Syria."

The aim was  to enable "safe, unimpeded and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid and services and medical evacuations of the critically sick and wounded, in accordance with applicable international law."

Both resolutions were violated straightaway by US-supported jihadists and Pentagon-led terror-bombing on the phony pretext of combating ISIS Washington supports.

Seven years of good faith Russian diplomatic outreach to the US and its imperial partners proved futile. Washington demands regime change.

It demands a halt to Russian and Syrian aerial operations in Idlib and surrounding areas against US supported terrorists.

On Tuesday, Jeffrey said no agreement was reached between the US and Russia on resolving years of war in Syria, claiming media reports otherwise are false, adding:

"We have exchanged our views on Syria with Russia at every level. There's no agreement. There are no negotiations, but there are continued exchanges" — accomplishing nothing.

A dubious report suggested that the US and Israel offered to recognize Assad's legitimacy as Syria's president in return for Russia getting Iran to pull out of the country.

Its presence in an advisory role against US supported terrorists poses no military threat to Washington or Israel.

As long as war continues, it's likely to maintain its legitimate support for Syrian sovereignty in its battle to free the country from US/Israeli supported terrorists.

Separately according to AMN News, Russian and Syrian warplanes have been intensively bombing terrorist held parts of southern Idlib province as government forces continue combating them on the ground.

According to Southfront, in various areas liberated by government forces, large caches of heavy and other weapons were found abandoned by jihadists — supplied by the US, European countries, Turkey and Israel.

"Most of these weapons were supplied by the US as a part of a secret operation to train and equip anti-government groups in Syria," said Southfront, adding:

"The operation, codenamed "Timber Sycamore," was authorized by…Obama…"

Jihadists continue combating government forces and terrorizing civilians in areas they control with weapons supplied by the US and its imperial partners — aided by Pentagon-led terror-bombing.
