Endless Anti-Syria Propaganda War

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

When the US wages naked aggression against nations threatening no one, major media support what demands denunciation.

It's been this way throughout the post-WW II era, endless wars raging, no end of them in prospect, plans for new ones drawn, ready to launch if and when ordered.

In lockstep with Washington's imperial agenda, major media blame victims of US aggression for crimes of war and against humanity committed against them.

US wars and other hostile actions against targeted nations wouldn't get out of the starting gate without major media support for its imperial agenda.

In its ninth year, US-launched war in Syria rages despite great progress made by government forces and Russian airpower toward ending it.

Establishment media vilify the Syrian Arab Republic, a nation defending itself against US-supported terrorists, aided by Pentagon-led terror-bombing.

Propaganda war on the country substitutes fiction for facts, reporting managed news misinformation and disinformation, ignoring reality on the ground.

In its latest assault on what's going on in the country, the NYT turned truth on its head. It continues calling US aggression "civil war" despite nothing remotely "civil" about it.

It lied claiming "Syrian bombs destroyed the Tarmala Maternity and Children's Hospital in Idlib" — a Pentagon-led specialty. The same goes for its NATO partners, Israel, the Saudis and UAE, considering civilians legitimate targets.

Syria and Russia operate by a higher standard, observing international law, going all out to minimize civilian casualties. No evidence reveals otherwise.

The Times: "(I)n Syria, hospitals are a tool of war" — indeed by the US and its imperial partners, not by Syrian and Russian forces.

The Times: "The government's campaign against hospitals goes back to the beginning of the war" — a bald-faced Big Lie.

The Times: Assad "believe(s) that doctors who treated bleeding and battered (civilians are) themselves anti-government partisans" — another bald-faced Big Lie.

What the Times calls the "opposition" is comprised of ISIS, al-Nusra, and other US-supported cutthroat killer jihadists.

Throughout the war, the Times and other establishment media ignored the Obama regime's responsibility for launching it, continued and escalated by Trump, notaby the 2017 rape and destruction of Raqqa, turning the city into a moonscape, massacring tens of thousands of its defenseless residents — on the phony pretext of combatting ISIS the US created and supports.

The neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post urges escalated war in Syria over efforts to end the conflict.

It slammed the campaign by Syrian and Russian forces against US-supported terrorists in Idlib province, their last major stronghold in the country.

It lied claiming their warplanes struck "two dozen hospitals…since April 30." WaPo and other major media ignore thousands of al-Nusra and other terrorists in Idlib holding millions of residents hostage as human shields.

It lied saying "bombs and artillery rounds rained down on hospitals, schools and food stores…" It lied claiming Syrian forces used CWs in an Idlib village.

WaPo slammed an unacceptable Security Council draft resolution by three US proxy countries (Belgium, Germany and Kuwait) rejected by Moscow.

Expressing concern about "intensifying attacks on civilians (sic) and civilian objects (sic), such as medical facilities and schools (sic)," it ignored reality on the ground, a statement by Russia's UN mission saying the following:

"We did did not find it possible to support in the Security Council the draft statement for the press on the situation in the North-West of the SAR (Syrian Arab Republic), proposed by the informal penholders of Syrian humanitarian dossier (Belgium, Germany, Kuwait)" — serving US imperial interests, adding:

"We do not agree that the situation in the North-West can be viewed separately from situation in other regions. Besides, the document under consideration absolutely ignored the fact that Idlib was controlled by terrorist group 'Hayat Tahrir al-Sham' " — US-supported al-Nusra by another name.

"We regret that our colleagues (sic) in the Security Council preferred to stick to the biased approach towards what is going on in Syria."

"The so called humanitarian 'troika' showed no worries when the illegal coalition that is deployed in Syria was razing Hajin and Baghouz down to the ground."

"The 'liberated' Raqqa still lies in ruins" — tens of thousands of rotting corpses beneath rubble ignored by the US, its imperial allies and major media.

Russia slammed Trump's distorted Sunday tweet filled with bald-faced Big Lies, saying:

"Hearing word that Russia, Syria and to a lesser extent, Iran are bombing the hell out of Idlib Privince (sic) in Syria, and indiscriminately killing many innocent civilians. The World is watching this butchery. What is the purpose, what will it get you? STOP!"

In response, Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia will continue to strike the "high concentration of terrorists" in Idlib, responsible for killing civilians, adding:

It's "unacceptable" not to counter the threat these jihadists pose. Russia intends to continue the battle against them.

WaPo: "If Mr. Trump wants to stop the latest Syrian butchery (sic), he will have to do more than tweet" — calling for escalated US aggression against sovereign Syria in less than so many words.
